MOT failure, but only just
Discussion
Mine just failed on imbalanced front brakes and two loose bolts on the ARB bracket. Caliper rebuild kit in stock so easy job to do. As it's the first MOT I've put it through quite happy that everything else is safe and straight. Tester did say that engine was running a little lean on the mix.
Rainy afternoon so pass out in garage was allowed!
Calipers now removed, stripped down and culprit found - one piston in the OS caliper was seized. Took everything apart and after a bit of polishing the pistons now all look fine so I've cleaned and painted both calipers in heat resistant paint and will re-assemble, fit and bleed tomorrow and pick up a few new nylocs Monday for the ARB bolts so no problems with timing for the re-test. There's a local village show (Dilwyn) and classic car display bank holiday Monday so re-test on the Saturday already booked and intending to stick the Wedge in the display area for the day, and get free entry for at least two of us.
Re the lean mixture, I've pulled a couple of plugs out and all looks fine. As Mr MOT man insisted that engine, head lights et al were run while he poked and prodded her I did tweak up the idle speed via the plenum adjustment so it may only be a little lean on idle. I'll keep my eye on the plugs to see if there's any change in colour. He only checked exhaust gas at idle speed but the old "toy" BMW convertible last week was tested at 2500rpm so they don't seem to be too consistent.
