I thought it would be worthwhile fitting a fan override switch , thinking this should be straightforward...

I assumed I could wire a dash switch to energise the relay on the relay board marked 'fan' on the diagram, and if the ignition is on the fans should come on ?

This doesn't happen - I am missing something ? Surely I don't need to wire it across the otter switch itself ?

Hi Mike

Just wire a switch in parallel to the Otter Switch. That way you rant changing any of the original wiring!

I've probably got an original switch you can have if you want to make it look original?

Karl.

Hi Karl

Yes I guess that's best - just be easier if I could go straight to the relay but things never work out that easy with TVR wiring !

Let me know if you want a switch. You might be able to mount it next to the one on the right and side of the centre console? I've found a hazard legend as well.

If the otter is your route, it is two wires and a two lucar piggy back connectors. And a switch of course. I fitted the switch under the dash by the bonnet pull.

Yep, should work... does the Otter switch the positive or negative side of the relay? If it switches the negative and you're poking +12 into the already-live side, nothing will happen.

Thanks Karl I'm ok for a switch - will probably re-use /re-label the heated rear window switch which I dont intend using anymore...

Is the otter switch in the side of the rad on this one - what's the best way to get at it ?

It is the one on the side of the rad if the previous owners has not had it sealed up. It ain't easy but not hard. Fiddly I would say. Be careful of the clips that hold it on, easy to knock off. I teased the connectors off and already had the two switch wires crimped up, popped the new piggy back lucars on then teased the otter wires back on. You have to be a bit careful as I said around the otter. The seal and plate and clamps might not be in the perfect condition.

I would have crimped the piggy back lucars on the otter wiring and piggy backed the override but at that time I guessed that the wires would be corroded so did not want to disturb them. Think Wedg1e at a later date mentioned you could use flux and burn it off to clean the corroded wiring.

Of course if you can identify the existing otter wires in a better position then maybe a set up at that point? Not sure where they go but probably up the wing with the lights, cannot remember if they go from the otter in a reasonable route.

I also wrapped in tape the length from the otter to the switch before putting it in the car.

Edit. I have bought myself a decent pair of crimps as well, don't used those simple ones you get with a kit.

Edit 2. I would pop out and take a picky but banged my foot up somewhat getting around is a pain (waiting for NHS to diagnose. A+E will be several hour wait, it ain't fallen off yet). Maybe later in the week if it is not urgent.
