Hi all, just wondering if you've any ideas where the original electric car aerials come from for my 1988 350i? Was happily driving down the road the other day, heard a metal tinkle and the aerial disappeared into the bodywork. The lock nut and top cap thingy are somewhere in a hedge. I've temporarily fastened it back up with an ugly old nyloc with the right thread but wondering if I can acquire a tatty old unit but with the correct cap and chromed lock nut? I've got an old manual one but the threads and size are different. If all else fails then I'll just buy a new one for £30.

I'm fairly sure I have an old aerial that got broke but I still have all the bits so probably the top bits are in there. A beer token will secure it...

A beer token it is. Thanks Adam. Tatty nyloc can wait until the BBWF then. Cheers.

How early? The Tasmin FHC used the rear screen heater element; the first DHCs used an older design of electric aerial that needed a rocker switch on the dash to lift and lower it, this was before the car radio makers standardised on a switched output from the set to actuate the aerial automatically. I think that's why a lot of cars have a blank in one of the switch positions, it was for the aerial switch on the original console layout.

DUH......! I wondered what that spare unused connector was for - I looked at it thinking "strange, it seems to be wired like an electric window motor too". Well that's me feeling like an idiot for not realising the obvious.

An old style leccy aerial - of course !!
