Sorry if this has been done to death....
I need a cover for the 400 I am collecting on Saturday (it has the tea tray spoiler on the back....)
This being Scotland, it has been known to rain and be a bit windy.
Are the covers difficult to fit (in the dark, in the rain, in the wind, by yourself)?
Recommendations please!

I am not a great fan of covers, as I believe that sometimes they do more harm than good, especially on a painted fiberglass body. It can cause all sorts of problems with the paintwork, from blistering to tie burns and marks. The only time I would use a cover on a Wedge is as a temporary measure. Ideally, long term, a garage is what's needed, but if you do need to leave it outside, I would just get a top cover to stop the car leaking and leave the body open to breath. This is just my opinion, but others may see it differently.

I have used a good quality breathable waterproof cover in the past on both my TR6 and lately on my BMW 323 convertible when the Wedge took pride of place in my garage. Cover has ties on each corner plus a belly strap. When it was fitted correctly it didn't flap, kept the cars clean and dry and as far as I could see didn't leave any noticeable marks on the paintwork. I did reproof it yearly. Down side was that it wasn't a 3 minute job to put on properly and almost impossible to refit if there was a stiff breeze.
The top cover does sound a good idea but wont stop bird crap and occasional Icelandic and Sahara debris being deposited on your paintwork.

My personal view based upon the cover I have is yes on a daily basis it would be a pain in the arse. As I only had to remove it on dry days and weekends then it wasn't a problem. To attach the corner ties to the wheels, and pass the belly strap under the car was a good 5 minutes plus of work and if it was dark and miserable was not fun. Half the time it was a hands and knees job to fit the belly strap - not nice it is P'ing down.
At the moment I have a Hamilton car cover http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/ this has proved very good over the past couple of years ! Provided you clean your car before the cover goes on its not a problem re - scratches or marks, the covers come with a fleece lining so are soft to the touch.... I have how ever just ordered a cover from these guys http://www.specialisedcovers.com/ which you can spec door mirror pockets and in varied colours... I have ordered a Stormshield cover in Black & Grey with the mirror pockets, there is a lead time of 3-4 weeks as they are made to order, so by the end of next week I will hopefully have with me and can report back as to its quality .
But the secret is only use it once your car is cleaned !!!

I use two..You can buy a full cover for loads of money but i found that a fleece lined breathable cover keeps the paint from getting scratched and a Howlfrauds special does the rest..I buy a new one each year as my beast is kept outside during winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn...When its windy...Hot..Freezing..Wet n Hot..Wet n windy...The cost for the Howlfrauds one is about £40...Its their medium size...The other one i can't remember where i got it from but it might come to me....Ziga

Leven Technology use to make top covers for the Wedge I believe, but I'm not sure if they still make them. There are some universal ones around but I guess it's a matter of searching around.

Yes they do. I bought one for mine (fits perfectly) just after Christmas this year. Tony.TCB.
cost was £150 I believeJumbo,
I wouldnt bother. If you remember, I'm the other side of the forth from you, so we probably get the similar weather. The first winter I had a wedge I went through three covers. No real bother to fit, but all three from the cheapest to the £100 ones were blown off, torn and useless. The longest one lasted was about a month. I've a FHC so appreciate you may want one for the soft top though, but I just leave it in the elements now, no bother over last winter, started fine and ran fine, a few wee leaks spotted and sealed.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll leave it for now, and think again at the end of the summer.

Both my wedges have lived out doors. At first I had a Tybond cover which worked well and had a soft inner to protect the paint. Unfortunately my cat also liked the cover and it ruined the waterproofing so I got a "stormforce 4 layer" jobbie. I use the tybond one on top to stop the cat ruining the new one so my wedge is double wrapped.
Both covers were excellent as said try not to put the cover on when the car is wet or dirty
Putting the covers on in windy weather is a pain though

Search gumtree for underground parking. There's usually someone renting out spaces they don't use. I'm renting one out in glasgow city centre right now.
I tried covers, they're a bloody pain. Impossible to put on when there is little more than zero wind, the cover scratches the paint if there's a tiny bit of dirt.
