Trying to get the dashboard out but steering wheel screws completely rounded... a snapped drill bit later I realise my drill isn't powerful enough.

So.... is it simple to drop the steering column to give me the extra clearance. Looks like it's two silver bolts at the top of the black adjustment thing. Or am I wrong?

Cheers

Hello,

Could you not pop the badge off from the centre of the steering wheel, remove the large nut and take the steering wheel and boss off together? That's what I normally do.

Otherwise yes, you can remove the bolts that hold on the adjuster/column to drop everything down a bit. You may also need to release some of the cables if they are tight. The bolts REALLY fiddly to get back in though...

Edit: Ziga beat me to it!

Dan.

ive just done the same to get my dash forward - undid the two bolts holding the column, then just dropped it down so steering wheel is resting on seat ...but haven't tried getting the bolts back in yet !

Depends what kind of bush/ bearing you have where the column passes through the floor; if you drop the colummn it twists in that bush which it (the bush) may not like.

Errr... you do know the column is telescopic, don't you... if you slacken the clamp it should slide out.

Problem I have is a mess of wiring behind the column from an old alarm install so I have very little room and can't pull the wheel out much, only option is get the wheel off, dash out, then I can suey out that wiring

Probably has one of these then, unless it's been changed for something funky...
