after searching the boxes of rubbish in the garage last weekend, I found a lockable fuel cap to fit on the standard filler neck on the wedge..

Unfortunately there was no company information on the literature that came with it, and the packaging was plain.

It secures and centralizes via 4x self tapping screws and twists onto the existing filler, providing a locking cap.

I've been trying to get one of these since the beginning of time. The closest I could find is one made for a classic Norton motorbike, unfortunately it fits but won't lock into place because the four screw plate that goes on the filler neck is not supplied. The cap itself is the right one though. Maybe I can get the plate custom made, but that's where I got stuck.

Tony...You might be lucky...I have just found one that i know fits the Wedge..And i believe its the Ceandess which was the original fitment..Not cheap but they don't make them anymore...(Yet)..

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&...

If not then there is always this option that i did to Delilah albeit Non-Locking...Cheers...Ziga

I had to change the filler neck to the one that came with it as the cap is a screw type.

This is the same as the cap I found, and both the standard and the locking cap do fit, but because there is no plate supplied to screw onto the filler neck, the locking cap will not lock in place.

Not much point in converting it to screew on as again it can't be locked. My intention was to have a locking cap, so as it can be locked and opened with a key.

Let me have a chat to my mate and see if it would be possible to get hold of some locking petrol caps and for him to machine a collar similar to mine so it could be riveted or screwed into position.

Hi Tony...The one in the link..(2nd pic).. is a.. "Push - and - turn" fit and then is locked with a key..This should fit as the locking tabs go against the inside of the filler neck...?

I would love to have a locking petrol cap on my Wedge as it would make me feel much better when I leave it parked somewhere. The Norton motorbike locking cap is the correct fitting onto the filler neck on the Wedge. However, when you lock it, the two metal prongs in the cap slide out but have nothing to catch onto, to stop the cap coming off. It would need an attachment, I presume similar to yours, to attach onto the filler neck to give the cap prongs something to catch onto when locked. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, but if you look on the inside of the filler neck on the Wedge, it's totally smooth. There is nothing for the two prongs that come out of the cap when locked to catch onto. I have examined this closely as I was about to order one. It would need some type of attachmect to be fitted on the neck to make the cap lock into place. I'm not sure if I've explained it properly.

Ahhh...I know what you mean now...The one i had which there was no key for had a rectangular rubber stop on one of the ends that pushed against the sides of the neck...The other one was missing..Do people still nick petrol then?...Might be easier to modify the flap with a key lock...Ziga

What size is the filler pipe? Can't you use a locking conversion jobbie from another classic?

Hi mate...The filler neck is 2" OD...Not sure what the lip is though...The thing is the top part of the filler neck where the cap sits is only a small section housed in fuel filler hose..The part with the breather on is after approx 2" of 2"ID fuel filler hose further down so the top part can theoretically be changed as i did for the screw on version...A lockable solution would work just as well so i can't see what all the fuss is about??...If you have ever syphoned petrol from a car then i can tell you its disgusting!...So unless the thieves are carrying a pump around with them then I'm pretty sure you will be ok with a non-lockable fuel cap...Besides id like to see someone empty two tanks of fuel out of a Wedge!...Its hard enough getting it in there...laugh

I'm not just worried about them taking fuel out but I'm more worried about someone putting something in it they shouldn't. There are a lot of nut jobs out there and the Wedge does look unusual. Just to give you an example, I was driving down the road the other day with the top down minding my own business when some nutter in the car behind me, as he turned left, shouted ' get yourself a decent car mate'.

Perhaps he shouted..."Got yourself a decent car mate"....Besides who gives a crap what he thinks...What car was he driving?..People like that are 1 in 10..Years ago it was a privilege to be that but these days it means your a dick so i wouldn't pay any attention to them..

Sometimes i have to park in some right dodgy places were they would ransack your car for anything..Admittedly i have had a cheap pair of sunglasses taken but they were on the centre console..But i have always come back and its how i left it..Even with the top down...There has been times where i have come back to the car and there are a few youths taking selfies with my car..When i go to get in they say.."Sick ride mate...Do you mind us taking pics of it"..And i say.."Course not..Its a compliment"...To which they reply..."Safe"....So i wouldn't worry about some dick putting something in the filler neck...Although i would worry if they put their dick in there..eek

Under such circumstances the proper course of action is to spin round and go after him. Sit behind him for a while making as much V8 noise as possible, just to remind him what a pile of sh!t he's driving smile
Then do a really obvious about-turn, just so he knows that you know that he knows biggrin

What about making the flap lock and only release with a solenoid or cable, OK it's only a GRP flap so if someone was determined enough they could still get in but they could also cut the fuel line so we are only trying to deter casual tea leaves and good for nothings. Most modern cars are like this when the car is locked so is the flap.
