Does anyone know what radio/cassette would have been originally fitted to my '89 400?

Thanks.

Hmm, I know Clarions were used in '85 but they had probably moved on by '89. My 400SX has been swapped out too. Sometimes you get a clue with the Owner's Manual - have you looked for the radio/cassette manual? (I just checked mine and none there - so no clue from that.)

My 1987 350i has an Alpine unit fitted, I assume they were pretty standard at that time. It still works as have tried it but much prefer the V8 soundtrack

My 400SE came with a Kenwood Tape with 6disc multi-changer in the boot.

I only removed it last month and fitted a new Alpine head unit

Thinks back, my first Vixen came with an 8 track.....

This for originality? Mine came with an after market doohicky in and since changed to a unit that plays the iPod off the front panel. Plug in the iPod and tuck it away and all the functions are off the front.

Yes. Mine has a modern radio/CD player which works well, but I would like to have the option to swap it for an original music unit as/when required.

I have heard of places that specialise in older kit. Read it somewhere, car mag at the dentists or something.

If you fit an original radio cassette player, you'll have to wear flared trousers and platforms everytime you take the car for originality! biggrin

I used to have (back in the 1980's) a false front. It was "just" a radio (knob each end and six? push buttons in between). The idea was you put it over the radio/cassette you had so low lifes thought you only had an AM radio and not a valuable FM radio/cassette!

Wish I knew what happened to it.

Phew! I'm in the wrong business!

I had a bright idea - you can get a cassette adapter so you can plug in an MP3 player. Trouble is it leaves an unsightly wire dangling outside the radio. So the idea is to take a miniature mp3 player, like a nano or similar size, and have a receptacle in the cassette adapter itself, that you put it into, and stick it in your "old skool" radio.

So you put it on play or shuffle or whatever, pop it in, job done!

Just had a look on the flea - ebay item 390849215213 - even includes a remote control.
