The ignition on my SEAC has been cutting out.. Sometimes it starts fine, the next it will turn over but not fire. As if there is no spark? It has cut out a couple of times driving too. Same issue..
I'm drawn to the immobiliser as I had a very similar problem in the past that affected my Corvette.

Trying to get this sorted asap before Saturday. I need to get a mobile auto electrician or alarm specialist to check as I don't have a circuit tester.

Timing!! irked

It's called 'Sods Law' Zig.. irked

I just hope I can get someone out to test it..& fix it before Saturday!

I have RAC cover, but I really don't fancy doing the Fest on the back of a flatbed!

Does it cut out and not pick up...And then only start if you reset the immobiliser?....Have you checked all the usual suspects?..Coil lead...Plug leads..Battery connections....ECU plug for snugness ...

I have checked as much as I can see.. nothing loose, nothing disconnected?

Yes, if I reset the immobilizer..which is one of these key things with contacts you push/hold together for 3 seconds..then 'sometimes' it fixes it & it starts. Hence why my suspicions are with the immobilizer!

Looking like the guilty party you think?

Fella stick a new battery in your key thingy ! I once had one that was causing a similar problem which turned out the battery was causing the fault ! It maybe nothing but worth checking bud.

Good idea.. Sometimes it's the little things that cause the problems. It would be nice if it was something like this.. i.e. simple!

Sounds like the immobilizer is cutting out the feed to the coil, coil wires are White/Black and White/Yellow
Check to see if one if these is cut and run though one of the immobilizer boxes if so you could try re-joining these to bypass the immobilizer.

if it's not the immobilizer it could be the ignition amp.

I am going to go over it again tomorrow, but I will definitely check that. Ta!

I had these issues with my SEAC and eventually found there were two problems. One was the immobiliser, the other was the connection BEHIND the slot into which the fuel pump relay fitted under the glovebox, which I think had to be re-soldered or similar. (Waggling the fuel pump relay used to work at first to get me going again but then it lost its effect)

I had the same sort of problem of the disappearing spark, after changing the ignition module all seemed well until it happened again, then Towing Vehicle Required. TVR.
At a kit car show I got talking to a ignition specialist who said it was a distributor problem. He had a great deal on a dissy.
So since fitted no problems and I got my confidence back.
Pm me for info and I'll be glad to pass his details on to you.

When you get the failure check for spark at the king lead.

If yes: check for spark at a plug lead. If no: probably the rotor arm or dizzy cap.

If king lead no: work back. Check for 12V at the coil primary. Check for pulsing of the coil primary when cranking.

No pulsing? Could be the ignition amplifier, or the pickup in the dizzy that feeds the amplifier. First is easily changed, second I've not done but someone on here has recently.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will mention to this auto leccy chap who is 'hopefully' coming Friday lunchtime. It's leaving it so so close to the Fest..unbelievable timing as it's been running superbly!!

I had a good look around, unplugged and cleaned various contacts. Nothing obvious. I just know it's that immobiliser!
It's frustrating though because it started first turn this morning, and ran lovely. I tried again earlier...nothing!

^ This has hallmarks of classic ignition amp failing - sounds exactly like my mates Chim - it would cut out when driving sometimes start straight away again sometimes needed to be left for 5 or 10 minutes. Replaced ignition amp and all good. But as Adam says you need to verify no spark first...

Sorry to hear your having problems Wayne. Check to see if you are getting 12V to your coil if not it could be your rev counter playing up. There's a circuit board in it , it may just need a bit of solder

You'll get similar symptoms with a failing coil. If age unknown then worth replacing anyway. But which supplier?

It was the coil! But the electrician reckoned the immobiliser was a bit flaky, so a new one is going to be fitted.
Just gutted I couldn't make the Wedge Fest.
