RIP = UWR 92W :-(
Discussion
Hi everyone, I've some bad bad news :-(
Just got word from the shot blaster and the news is not good, not good at all. What has been uncovered under the layers of under seal as well as the significant rot around the front suspension mounts, it turns out my chassis is beyond repair. In short its quite surprising how when I drove the car the front wheels literally didn't snap off (please can I also note this car actually still has a valid MOT.......really!!!)
I was well aware when I decided to repair her, I would be loosing money, I accepted that but the state of whats been uncovered and now what I have chassis wise takes me to a new realm of financial misery if i choose to replace the chassis, which for this car I simply cant take.
To get it even something like it would need a proper jig job, all suspension mounts replacing and outriggers taken off and replaced given what we've uncovered. The years of mend a make do and over-sleeving to repair tubes has taken its toll.
In short I feel very low today but on the plus side I do feel I have given the old girl a fair crack to bring the old girl back from the brink of death but today she slipped away :-(
RIP = UWR 92W
I'm still coming to the BBWF on Saturday, I'll be needing a few drinking and the sound of your beautiful wedges will hopefully dull my pain
I'll also post up some parts / bits and pieces on the wedge hoard wiki incase some parts of use to keep other wedges running
Thanks for everyone's support on my journey

Wow - gutted for you.
Considering how the car was marketed (certainly not as a resto job) and the massive journey you've undertaken with it in a short space of time I'm frankly amazed and in full admiration of your fortitude and resilience up to, understandably, this point. A reminder to all potential TVR owners that beauty can only be skin deep. That truly is a kick in the nuts mate.
If Zig is amenable I'll ping him a few beer tokens to put at the fest bar for you - you surely deserve a drink.

That's s
thouse mate!!!!
Surely it would be worth trying to find a compatible chassis, maybe a crash damaged car bell hill or the like.....
You've done so much don't break up the parts just yet something might just turn up... Put the word out there guys someone must have a chassis so where.
Hope you you find one...
Adam

I'd be wanting to see some photos. If the chassis really was so bad the wheels were in danger of snapping off, they would have.To get it even something like it would need a proper jig job, all suspension mounts replacing and outriggers taken off and replaced given what we've uncovered. It's only mild steel fabrication work at the end of the day, but arguably a second-hand chassis could be cheaper.
ETA I seem to recall 'FrenchTVR' Mick paid about £140 for what I remember as a very sound chassis; that sum wouldn't get you very far in a fab shop...
thanks for the comments guys......defo a few beers on Saturday :-)
as for a replacement chassis, please remember its a 280i with the very early trailing arm rear suspension that was then significantly modified for the V8
If I got a chassis I'd need to totally re work that to make it fit my body as its very different around the rear as well as the engine bay (I have straight chassis tubes) vs the kinked out ones that would then hit the body
At the end of the day I need to decide when to draw a line under this............today is that day I'm afraid :-(

Not good news, will Hallsie's chassis fit the bill?????
I notice that one or two of TVR dealers sell the frame pieces and also makes/repairs on jigs. Not sure if they have a Wedge Jig , but certainly worth investigation.
Absolutely hate when these cars die :@( not enough are surviving of late, real shame.
Goodluck trying to recover this situation, I know costs can be prohibitive.

Anything on here?
Is there any part of your chassis that is solid? Perhaps you could cut and shut with the 390????
Gotta be worth a look!!!!

Well that is certainly a hard kick in the nad sack!...Would it be possible to fit a series 1 tub on an A frame chassis..I don't know but if the option is there then please consider it mate...
Im sure you won't be short of beers in which to drown your sorrows in..Smash you may of just started a "Wedge support group" albeit with alcohol..
This is the kind of news we all dread..Im still putting off removing the sills to make them removable in case i find something bad...Although its got to be done....
Gutted for you mate...Ziga

These people might have a chassis. They have a 280i breaking that has fire damage, they have a 280i engine too.

loving all the supportive comments but it's not going happen........spending what I have done then plopping in a V6 would be something I could simply not do :-(
Its the end I'm afraid
There is an early 350i in that there breakers, the chassis should be the same as yours, could you not buy the chassis and make yours good? Its the end I'm afraid
I hate to see a good car disappear.

How about sell it as a project rather than break it up?
No one is going to buy this as a project. Really they are not. I'm already well out of pocket and tried my hardest to rescue her but at the end of the day pound notes talk
I'm screwed either way so just trying to limit the depth of screwing!!!
