How LOUD - is TOO LOUD
Discussion
We all know one of the main reasons why we love our wedges'
The glorious soundtrack they produce...
But just how loud can we go...
Is there a definitive legal maximum db
How is measured
What are the fines
Etc etc
I am about to have a straight thru exhaust and the fitter said "oh I think that will be illegal"
So can anyone provide the true fact - and bearing in mind the age of these cars pre cat etc
Cheers ( and sorry if the question has been raised before)

As far as i am aware, there isnt a 'rule' as such.
Track days, there are very strict limits, but on the road its far more relaxed. In reality its probably down to the MOT tester / Police if they consider it to be 'Anti social' rather than illegal.
I have a straight through box which IMHO is as loud as i would want it.
Straight through, no silencer, is just TOO LOUD!!
If you havent seen this, here is my one...and my mates 348 with a TUBI which makes mine sounds quiet!

Louder than a standard silenced car as manufactured is actually illegal, but expecting a BIB to unweld his arse from the comfy seat of his patrol car to do anything about it
.........unless he has already stopped you for something else.
When I got pulled over the other day
"Evening Cur, nice car you 'ave there",
"evening Ossifer, how can I help you?"
I had the engine switched off
before his arse had got itself unwelded from the regulation dralon.
Being twice his age was taken into consideration, and I drove off with my record unblemished, having let him depart before starting my engine

and I look forward to seeing that lovely dark red wedge again.......how about you Matt-man?
Damn right I'll be there and just to add another angle to the thread - My 21year old son will drive - and stopping his daily drive insurance for the day actually earnt me a refund - anyway back to "too loud"....

As i understand it the legal limit is 89db..But with classic sports cars that does not apply..As long as its not louder than it left the factory with...Would they know???...I was once stopped in Delilah and she was pumping out 119db...The traffic cop that stopped me just wanted to have a look, When i asked him about the exhaust being loud he said they just look at the tailpipe and if its the size of a waste paper basket then they will slap a producer and possibly a fine on you...Ziga

I can see that one of you is coming Thundering in the Tunnels a week on Sunday, and I look forward to seeing that lovely dark red wedge again.......how about you Matt-man? Be good to see you there, and I believe the After Event is down your way too.
I would absolutley love to!!...BUT, i cant as i will be in Vegas! Shame as i would if i was around. I went to one years back but havent been able to make another since.
I'm always up for hooning...and usually ensure that I go via hindhead when im in the wedge

I asked the same question before got my wedge

I believe my 400 came second in the Db shootout in the BBWF a few years ago. It is outrageously loud if I give it beans, but it is reasonable with the revs down when tip toeing through the village or passed the BiB

Ah happier times for my old wedge, 121db in 2009 http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffDwMsN_dw
I really really want a louder one though when I get my next wedge though ;-)

It's a very hard line between nice and loud. I have heard some tvrs which are just offensive loud and have lost all of their rv8 charm. Mine sounds so different now to what it was-almost sounds like a different car.
If you want to hear mins before you have yours done and your in the area it would be a pleasure
