Hello,

I am trying to get my 1984 280i on the road here in Germany as an "oldtimer". For that I have to prove that it's been in traffic since at least 30 years.
Since the car is an US-Model and was exported to Sweden 1990 it is a bit difficult to get any information about the car.
I already contacted Richard Sails and he was a great help in proving that the car was built in 01/84 but now our authorities want a prove for the registration as well.

The registration number of my TVR in England was A863DUY.

As I learned the prefix A stood for registration between 01.08.1983 and 31.07.1984.
When I check the registration date here https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ it says 1989.

But how is that possible when it has A as prefix?

Can anybody help me with that?

I need a dokument that proves that the car was registered in 1984 otherwise I can't get the TVR on the road here in Germany frown .

thanks
thomas

As far as I know, the car was exported to the USA. Wasn'T sold there and brought back by TVR in 1989.
But since the car has the registration with an A it should have been registered in 1984 maybe by TVR themselves.
That's what I have to find out!

thanks

That field "Date of first registration" should actually be called "Date of first registration in the UK".

A few people I know have had their Vehicle excise duty worked out wrong as the DVLA took that date into consideration instead of the date of manufacture. Once contacted, the DVLA sorted it out and gave them the correct tax banding.

When I put my imported car's registration into that form it comes back with:

Vehicle details
Vehicle make MITSUBISHI
Date of first registration 01 June 2007
Year of manufacture 1999
Cylinder capacity (cc) 1997cc
CO₂Emissions Not available
Fuel type PETROL
Export marker No
Vehicle status Tax not due
Vehicle colour BLUE Vehicle
type approval Not available

It was built and registered in Japan in 1999 and I imported it into the UK in 2007.

If they still won't accept your dates, then you may have to go to the company that exported it or the company that imported it into the States.

Why not? My Golf cabby was originally registered on a K 1993 plate even though it was first registered in the Uk in 2003. Year of manufacture still shown as 1993 as well.

just that I get it right, when does a car in Britian get it's registration plate?
When it is registered for the road or when it is manufactured?

Mark, do the records include special options or first owner details? I'm still intrigued as to why mine has the SEAC dash. Thanks.

Hi Keith...It will hopefully tell you what the car left the factory with originally..When it was built and registered, Obviously any aftermarket bits will not be on there...So if there was any requests from the first owner then i imagine that should be included...Send me your Chassis number and we will see...Cheers...Ziga

It gets it when registered but the registration VRN will usually relate to the date the car was built.
