Need some wood...

afternoon all

the arm rests on 420 are grey and red......even the handles / pull thing

however in the boot, came the original arm rests that after a bit of scrubbing came up rather nice and clearly match the vinyl covering on my door cards

the only problem is the wood handles are all cracked......if it was just the lacquer I would have been happy to sand it down and gloss varnish. but the veneer itself is shot

anyone got a half decent pair???

Hi Glen...A couple of options..

1. You could cover the handle in vinyl as i did with mine, They were already covered but looked really tatty.


Or

2. Get yourself a piece of Burr walnut leaf and glue it on with some contact adhesive...Then get yourself a spray tin of guitar lacquer...Theres no need to rub down between coats and you can layer it up..However it needs a rubbing compound afterwards like you would do with new paint..Avoid any damp or humid conditions as it will go milky...Here was an experiment i did with some bits of wood, I was going to fit them but they needed screws/Bolts in the back..Unfortunately i did them in winter and unfortunately although i had the heating on there was a lot of damp in the air as the windows were open and there is a small amount of milky lacquer on one of them....Now is a good time to do them.

swap the arm rests so the grey vinyl matches...........and just take the red handle off the red stripy one and put on all grey one

boom!!!!

It does amaze me how some interiors of our beloved machines are ruined by ex mechanics or owners who can't be ars*d to clean a) their ruddy hands or b) the leather/vinyl after working on it.

Thats always been one of my pet hates...Even with some of my previous not so Wedged shaped cars..I have always maintained a clean car and the amount of times i have had to wash my hands because the grubby bastids have put grease on the steering wheel...The Ford mechanic used to hate working on Delilah as i would moan at all the dirty fingerprints over the engine and associated components...It may be a bit OCD..Or in my case now WCD but they should respect the customer....Ziga

Its really not that difficult to strip off the old veneer and glue some new on and then lacquer it..Especially on door handles...Facias need a bit more work.

Burr walnut leaf is not that expensive...You don't need much!...Ziga

Unfortunately they come with the car, lol! (sorry couldn't resist)

I have a set of drilled alloy ones on the car at the moment if you fancy them when I swap these back on?
