Rocker Cover Gasket
Discussion
Rubber for me. I know people say they can be reused but I like to change them out after a few times off maximum as they do spread with the heat and oil. Sometimes it is better to change them every time you have the covers off, for the sake of £8 I think it is good practice.
Each to there own of course.

Funnily enough I've just replaced the offside one on mine as it was leaking. It was a cork one in there. I replaced it with another cork one (like a composite cork) with some sealant on each face. However, I have the rocker covers with TVR cast into them, and the dimensions od the gasket face must be slightly out, I needed to trim the ends of the gasket to enable it to fit properly. Note that the bolts should not be overly tight - the manual says 3 lb ft.
If you have the type with the eyelets you could try taking out the eyelets because they are what stops the rubber compressing, It might bed down a little more. Or some blue hylomar and stick it back on. Put the hylomar on the rocker cover and let it go off for 30 minutes before reassembly.
