Tasmin 280i FHC series 1

Really enjoying this car.

Last couple of times that I started her up, fuel pump sprung into action but nothing on the starter. After a couple of turns on the key it fires into life and is then fine.
New fuel filters. New fuel pump relay. Earths on the front leg look good, but took them off and cleaned them up. Assume this is where the starter is earthed. Have not as yet followed the wiring to confirm.
The car was refurbished several years ago and is generally sound.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi mate..When you say "Nothing on the starter"...What do you mean...No cranking or cranking but not starting?...Does it happen when the engine is up to temperature?...Or is it worst?.....Ziga

Sounds like a sticking solenoid. The starter is earthed through its case, through the engine and back to the battery via the negative cable.

Thanks for your responses. May well be a lazy solanoid. Started ok 3 times today. Will have to test it.
Have new stainless manifold, exhaust and 2 rear mini silencers. Sounds great at revs.

Had that problem with mine (would not start mostly when warm) had an EEEEK moment the other week when the solenoid decided to stick in the ON position took the keys out of the ignition and starter and engine continued to run! Stalled the engine by dropping it in gear with the brakes applied hard and the starter kept going, hurriedly disconnected the battery power, and had the car recovered, new starter and all is now well..

Is yours a 2 bolt or 3 bolt starter?

I have some spare 2 bolt type.

Mine is a rare 3 bolt!
