Ignitition switch, What from?

I should know this but what car is the ignition switch from, I think mine is faulty some of the time! (1986) that's the car me Lots older

Depends, mine is built in '86 and has a Rover SD1 steering column.
Depends on what TVR felt like probably....

Mines from '88 and is also the SD1 column and ignition switch.

Hi mate...This may sound bizarre but key shape is a dead give away sometimes...For instance 3 x Keys that could be used in a Wedge.


1. Triumph TR7

2. Range rover/SD1
...Mostly more teeth along the edge but the same shape.
3. Obviously Ford Orion/Escort

Hi Mark

That's what is messing me up the key looks like an allegro key or TR7! I know it's an age thing but all the other bits look SD1,
So still not sure, any other ideas, thoughts welcome.

Hi mate...I think i have a TR7 ignition switch somewhere but it has bullet connectors on it as i used to use it as a test switch..If its compatible with your barrel then that should determine what it is...I think.......If you want i can send you anyway?......Cheers...Ziga


PS: Forgot to say in my first post mine has an SD1 column and what looks like a classic Range rover ignition...1987 350i

Don't be too surprised, I know that the same ignition key switch was used in a wide range of Triumph and BL cars, the columns were different, but they all fitted the same actual electrical switch part. If it's one of those, the switch itself is a squat metal barrel held in with one (or sometimes two) small self tappers, on the opposite side to the key.
It only fits on one way as there is a small keyway in the design. I think (but not sure) the Rover SD1 used it too...
Yes there were different connectors soldered to that switch, but 2 minutes with the wire cutters ....
