Big bore exhaust gaskets - V8 3.9?
Discussion
Well at £20 a set that ain't gonna happen frankly!
The No.8 one failed this morning and was so loud I had to pull the injector connector on the way home!
When you are replacing one gasket, you can get it in by loosening off but not undoing the bolts on the port next door, then levering the mainfold away from the heads a fraction with a jack handle.
In my case the bolts were a little tight to get back in there so I had to jack up the pipe a bit next to the olive - you need to be able to put the bolts back in with your fingers, or else you could damage the weak threads in the heads.
Anyway - gasket in - and silence is golden! At least under the bonnet!!
Good call, Russ - just another seven to make, but only as and when needed....

I made my own from sheet copper over 20 years ago, still going well.

So - half an hour with some tin snips on a sheet of copper and hey-presto! One new gasket. Another half-hour and it was in there. Russ

There is no room for that - I have the pocket billiards world championships going on right now ;^)

It's not just being tight BTW (and there's a difference between being a bit tight and not wanting to be blatently ripped off) - the copper ones will last for 20 years (see above) and I needed one last night. Can't see ACT driving to my gaff at half past whatsit, can you?

In case anyone else wants to "roll their own" I just scanned the one the Rev sent me, just print it out and use as a template (check your printout matches the ruler for scale...)
My original copper one just came off as I have the exhaust off and is completely unharmed, unlike the traditional ones two of which are toast - so it definitely pays to get the snips out and peel away!
