It could happen to any of us, but has never happened to me before. Really.

Both headlights were standing proud when I set off this evening but one had decidedly lost interest by the time I got home. Lights comes on ok, moves up about 10mm and I can easily lift it up by hand but it won't stay up. When switched off, it won't budge and cannot be lifted. Seems that power is getting to the motor but the motor itself or the linkage has seized.

I could try swapping the relays round but is there another test I can carry out before taking the lamp out?

if you can move it then it is quite unlikely to be the relays/fuses/wiring sounds like the motors had it

I agree. Motor or possibly linkages.
