Squiffy bootlid
Discussion
The bootlid on my 400 only has one strut, on the near side. The lid was pushed up on that side slightly, which always bugged me.
So I swapped it to the other side (it was fun trying to compress the bugger) which solved the raised side on the left.
However now the right side is raised.
D'oh!
I've sourced a new (used) pair but before I fit them, am I missing something?
I tried adjusting the boot catch, the part on the lid. However I can't reduce the gap.....if I move the catch up, the lid will not catch.
I'm concerned that if I fit a pair of struts I'll just end up with a level lid.....but with a big gap right across. I don't know why I only have one strut to start with.
Thanks.

What is the right type?
100N instead of the 150-200N you would of needed with the spoiler on...SGS engineering have what you need..Give them a call first..http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&...
A nice pair (oo er) turned up today (thanks bradderztvr). With a pair of 100s the boot looks like this now:
and has just enough push to hold it up.
The one that came off (if I'm reading it correctly) is a 350n one. What would that have been used for? Massively strong. Anyone want it?
I do have a new problem. I need a pair of these:
I took one pair off my old strut but I need another pair for the other side (currently held on with cable ties!).
Anyone got a pair of nuts they can spare please?
Cheers.

Hi mate...You would of needed it with the tea tray spoiler...I think even with the 400SE overhang spoilers you might need more than 100N...Although i might be wrong!...Cheers...ZigaJumboBeef said:

Probably a modern car's steel tailgate (IIRC the Merc Vito van had something of similar rating to lift its tailgate!).I was told many years ago that they were from the RangeRover so I bought 4 of them; they turned out to be something like 240N. I'm a fat git and I can just about compress them so christ knows what 350N would be needed for - these didn't end up on my car, that's for sure.
Further research suggests (though not conclusively) that the original rams were from the Mk 1 RangeRover, the one with a sheet of glass for the tailgate - ie. like the Tasmin fixed-head... but trying to find an early Rangey is like trying to find an honest politician.
