390se Its dead again!!-earth fault???

Had a great drive to Filey,until I tried to start my 390SE for return to york.Eng turning over but not firing,no spark and no fuel.
After some hot wiring to low tension for coil eventually got a spark,but fuel pump(and wipers) not running.
Towed it 50 miles home - I must be mad!
I would be very grateful for any ideas re next steps/earth fault etc?
