Apart from having the clutch slave cylinder replaced, the heater matrix out to remove a lump of crud, re-routing the heater hoses correctly and then engine out to fit new gearbox input and output seals, it's all been very uneventful and of course inexpensive! Just when it seems to be retaining its bodily fluids in the correct places and now providing heat (just), it will start, idle when warm and move on a very small throttle opening but as soon as the throttle is opened further, there is a monster misfire/hesitation/holding back which I haven't experienced since multi-choke carburation and although it just about clears at high revs it's pretty damned inconvenient. Any ideas please. Also can anyone recommend a TVR specialist in the Chelmsford area. The nearest I have found is at Saffron Walden.
Hi Iom,
You say you've had the engine out. Was it OK before?
If it was I would guess that when you reconnected the throttle linkage/cable, the throttle butterfly plate setting has been disturbed and therefore the throttle potentiometer reading is out. Check out the Wedgepages here....www.tvrwedgepages.co.uk/ under the maintenance tab there's an EFI fault finding guide. Bear in mind that the guide states a 0.000" gap for the butterfly plate but it needs to be about 0.002" - 0.005" on a SEAC
Best of luck, keep us posted, good to see your looking after Tasmanias SEAC.
PS worth giveing him a ring as he would know the best settings for his old motor)
