350i Lower Radiator Mounts....

Hi Peeps...Just wondered if anyone has any pics of the lower mounting bracket or point where the two lugs locate that are on the bottom of the rad...Is it a plate?...One of those jobs that are inevitable as i have seen steam coming from the rad again and had a little dribble of coolant...

Hi Zig, I took some pics and posted them on a thread about a month ago, but in short the two lugs on the bottom of the rad slot through a whole in the lower front spoiler and should have two plastic or rubber sleeves over them to ensure no rattles and reduce effects of vibration. I lost one and made another out of rubber hose.

Thanks for that mate...Yours is totally different to mine...Mine has two vertical uprights with the holes at the bottom...Meant to take a pic earlier when i was looking...Doh!...
Im thinking of re-fitting via a bracket a Landrover disco rad as they are tons cheaper than the classic non-AC rads which were used by TVR on the later 350i's it seems.
Mine has the pins at the ends at the bottom but I'm hoping to fabricate a plate to house this one instead..

Ewwww - plastic tanks. My replacement Jeep one had plastic tanks and was only 80 quid. But it seems OK, has been in there 6 months now.
I am surprised that recoring is more expensive than £160, I had mine done a few years back and I would have remembered for being stung well over a tun for it.

How much you talking about Mark? Told you my copper one up graded was about 170 if I remember correctly. That why you wanted to know about Berkshire rads?
The brackets you are probably aware are just a piece of angle iron with the end bent over for the rad to sit on with a slot cut in it for the rad lug and rubber pad also with a hole in.

Zig, if it helps, a lot of the alloy rads are an alloy core, but plastic header tanks, with a rubber type seal and the core has a set of crimped tabs at each end. I fixed a rad leak on my clone car by squeezing the tabs a bit more....

Not exactly high quality. Angle iron with a plate welded at the bottom to accept the lower peg on the radiator, and a sloppy bolt with a metal spacer at the top. The Angle iron is bolted through the marine ply vertical re-enforcements that form the division between the headlamp pod cavity and the radiator cavity.

The rad has to be fairly loosely bolted in otherwise the heat expansion/contraction will crack it.

Thanks Martin...When you explained it to me the other day i thought it was rough but seeing it in the flesh...Well looks like i might be able to fabricate something to house a slightly different rad..It is only the bottom locating lugs that hinder it so if i can change that then problem solved...Cheers for the pics...Ziga
