350i side repeater assembly.
Discussion
Hi Peeps...I was kindly given some side repeater bulbs so i thought i would fit them...Gently pulled the O/S one out until i could see the plastic lugs then with a wide tipped flat screwdriver and a cloth in case i slipped gently pushed the clips in...Removed and cleaned the unit...Fitted new LED...Push back in to place..Go to do the same to the N/S and struggled to pull it out...Then i noticed there were no securing lugs...Only black silicone..."BODGE"....
..Why do people have to scrimp on even the most cheapest of parts...It really gets my goat up!...So now i have had to "Bodge a Bodge"...Are the square side repeaters from a Ford...Possibly Escort...Orion...Mondeo...They look the type...Cheers...Ziga

I tried to buy some replacements a few years ago and it wasn't as easy I thought it would be. I can't remember if they were Escort or Sierra but I seem to remebmber that even though I eventually found ones with the right clips on the side, they used a different bulb holder fitting. In the end I switched the lenses over rather than mess around with re-crimping or joining wires.

Yeah sometimes that the only way...Im wondering if they were a Ford fitment from original?...Not sure what was fitted on them when they left the factory...As discussed today fella the replacement or update from square to oval or vice versal is straight forward, 2 wires and possibly a bit of fettling to the hole to make them fit securely. Its an easy road side job get the spanners out
Ford Sierra / Fiesta / Ka seems to be the likely suspects. I fitted Ka orange ovals to the Gredge bought them with the plugs and flying leads, solder - heat shrink and a file fitted LEDs the job was done in a hour and in time for Wasps to kick off!!!

As I recall, the Fords had a pair of notches either side of the main hole for the repeaters, so you inserted the lamp and turned it 90 degrees or so to lock. That worked fine in less than a millimetre of steel but not in a quarter-inch of GRP, hence the mastic to hold the lamps in place.

I have a niggle that I have to fix, it will be an earth connection for sure. When I indicate the brake light goes dim and bright as the indicator flashes. Any ideas to save me a bit of time, I thought I'd start with where the arial connects to earth, there's a few there.

As well as all the earthing, check that you are using the correct bulbs with the correct wattage and that they are sitting in the holder correctly with no corrosion on the contacts and the side pins of the bulbs. I had a simillar problem on my Ford van which took me quite a while to check and clean everything carefully, but got there in the end.Adam

I bought some Orion ones off the flea because one of mine is a bit cruddy, but then found I couldn't take it out! I think there might be some sort of clip behind it. It needs doing one day but for mow there are more important things to do.
The Orion ones are identical on the top but I can't vouch for the underside yet as I haven't seen it (the one on the car that is).

The clips need to be squeezed in as the unit is being removed, 9/10 these get broken as in the case of one of mine...You can actually get to them if you remove the lamp unit in the pod....Or from the access hole for the manual operation for the pod motor...Which is the easiest option if you have them as mine need re-tidying and cable tying but access via the pod is better for that....ZigaGassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
