Just a few weeks ago i finnished fitting a new cam to the car, a kent 224

In the process i mannaged to put coolent all over the engine and in my wisdom i thought ill hose out the engine bay, and since then when i start the car it fires up on 5 or 6 cylinders then after a few minits it runs on all 8 with pops and bangs, before that the car ran smooth.
Im hopping ive just got something realy damp, also ive just fited new HT leads from ACT, they have made no difference and are very BLUE
Dose any one have any thoughts on this
The timing on tick over is ok.

The second qoestion is, my dizy has the ignition modual mounted on the side of it, can i put a micro switch into the negative side of the circuit, there is two wires - one to the coil and the other into the bulk of the wireing loom. The micro switch would act as an ignition isolator or will this affect the timing or the engine to run smooth.
I did have a jack plug on one wire and was not to sure what it did, when unpluged the car wouldnt start.

Thanks for any help on this problem

Hi Campbell, are you saying it was ok after the cam change? or was the problem due to the coolant spill and steam clean?
Couple of sticky valves maybe if its the former?
PS. was looking at your web site pictures last night.....excellent

Hi

Ill try the WD40 thing Pistolar and ill never steam clean again.

Dickymint, thanks for looking at the pics, they arent that bad.
After the cam went in the car ran smooth, it was after the coolent leak and me cleaning the engine that has caused the car to start on 5 or 6 cylinders
I hope the WD40 will help

Cheers

Not a good idea to take it for granted - double check thay are lying correct and not shorting out to anything metal....mine were - take a look for sparks in the dark.

I reckon something electric has been affected by water ingress. Or...after fitting a new cam your timing may be out, though I'm not sure if it would have any effect. Just a thought.

Some other ideas I had:
- Water in the dizzy. Perhaps someone can help on how to identify/rectify this (must is be a dizzy out job?)
- Water on the coil. Happened on several of my cars (not yet the TVR) due to driving in torrential rain for example. Remedy: take the lead of, dry coil connection and lead, and put it back again.
- The resistor pack is quite 'open' to water.
- The testing plug close to the dizzy. I assume when some water gets in there, it could result strange electrical effects.
- Any connectors under the bonnet.

Good luck,

Rob

Have you taken it out for a really good run yet? My brother has been buying and selling cars for over 20 years and he usually jet washes the engine bays. It does cause problems but you tend to find they go away once the engine bay has been really baked.

So is the new cam a solid lifter (224) - the old cam looked like it was hydraulic !

Hi all
Still have to try the WD40 and im going to remove all the plugs.
The cam is running on new hydrolic lifters just like the old cam, they are hassle free but took some time to fill when the car was started for the first time.

Thanks for the sugestions
