First time the Wedge has let me down on Saturday and it was my own fault. Did the heater matrix bleed modification and obviously didn't tighten up the jubilee clip enough. Ten miles down the road and 'whoosh': coolant everywhere. Refitted the hose and tightened it up with a 10p coin. Fortunately, I was only a mile from Halfords. I bought the antifreeze and they fixed me up with a bottle of water, a screwdriver, and a loan of their toilets to clean off the glycol.

All very embarrasing . The good news is that the sudden release of pressure appears to have disloged a load of crud from the matrix and it gives off a lot more heat. Bliss

It may well have released a load of crud and improved the heater - I have known this to happen on a few cars.

Trouble is that same crud will also get into the radiator and block it - recommend a thorough clean and flush of the system as soon as possible.

A good idea. I hadn't thought of that.

At least you never ended up on a Motorway when it blew!

Exactly !

The moral is:

If it don't work, it obviously wasn't meant to.

Just realised: I bought my Wedge on April 5th 2002 and it broke down for the first time on January 8th 2005. That's over 1000 days (1009 to be precise) of reliability. Is this a record???

Dunno Don, but I guess it would have to be considered alongside mileage, as if it had never been out of the garage. Nonetheless one in the eye for the TVR reliability cynics.

Might also be tempted to say "they don't build them like they used to"

It's done about 15,000 miles in that time, which is probably above average (but I'm sure there are others used far more as daily commuters). Current mileage is showing as approx. 107,000, but who knows what happened before I got it
They definitely don't build them like they used to - not enough cylinders, these days !!
