Ignition switch woes

Hi All, its me again. Just to let you know that I still can't start the beast. My next point of attack is the ignition switch. It seems that it has been changed by a previous owner to what looks like a standard Lucas piece, fitting in the steering column and steering lock shoot bolt working correctly. Now, the problem I am looking at is the associated wiring attached.
There are 9 wire's coming out, only 5 are connected to a 4 pin multi-plug which in turn goes to the wiring loom.Ok still with me, then I shall continue. Stop me if I get boring !!!!You at the back, wake up, this is important stuff.
There are numbers 1-5 on the back, 1 is a thick white/red - 2 is a thick brown - 3 is a thinner white - 4 is a thin brown and 5 is a thick white/pink. These go to a botched up/taped up mess, but I have continuity tested these and are fine.
The other wires are thin and not numbered -1off black - 1off black/purple - 1off brown/red and the other black is what looks like an earth from the body of the switch. All these are not connected.
So, my question is, wait for it, yes youv'e guessed it, can someone tell me if, this firstly means anything to you, and secondly please can you tell me if this is normal for this to be wired like this?

Better not to post details of ignition switch wiring on the net, it only makes life easier for the twoccers.
