Fitting a pair of 16's on the back thanks to chappers and will post pics when done but the guys at Hexham have said that they are only a few mm away from the trailing arms so wondered what solutions you all decided to use ?
Richard has suggested spacers although he doesn't really like them and would then put on longer bolts so the nuts still have plenty of thread to attach to
Just want to see what you have all done
Thanks chaps

I've been running 16 x 9 oz rims for a couple of years including track work and have not had a problem although I am running 225 width tyres. I don't use spacers. When you say close to the trailing arm I assume you mean either the lower wishbone or the rear tie bar? Unless you have a pre A frame car of course.

Sorry - confused myself - its the tie bars and must be 2mm so worried about rubbing the tyre
Thanks
Assume you're running 245 profile tyres then? Trouble with spacers is potentially you're just moving from a problem with tyre contact on the inside to one of contact on the outside against the arch, unless the spacer thickness is determined very carefully. I'd already eliminated this potential problem by buying a pair of SH tie bars (after I snapped one of the orginals) which give noticeably more clearance than the originals. I doubt these are still available though. Thanks
I run the OZ splitrim 16's too with 245's and one side is quite close. But not as close as the 16" cerbie wheels which deffo needed spacers to give a few mm clearance.
I have found that as long as you can get a fag paper in between, the tyres won't actually rub on the tie rods at any point in the suspension arc. And I've put some substantial miles on this setup - probably 60k so far.
Also be aware that different tyres bulge out at the sidewalls differently. The Toyo Proxes I have on there now seem less bulgy. And I run mine at 20psi which probably helps.
If you are paranoid you could fit the SH tie rods which give a bit more space - this would be a much better solution, as has been said any more offset will see the wheels rubbing on the insides of the wheelarch under full deflection.

Just had a quick check of my clearances, and I've got a minimum of 22mm between wheel/tyre and the tie bar, but as said, this is with 225 45 tyres.
I've got a pair of 5mm alloy spacers that came with my wheels which I could lend you if it would help you decide what to do, but I will need them back eventually just in case I go 245 wide tyres and I need to space them. Trying to source a pair of the SH bars might be your best option IMHO.
