After giving some thought to my exhaust issues (see previous thread) I've decided that as my pocket won't run to a brand new system from ACT (£1300 FFS !! Paid less than twice that for the whole car!!) I'm going to get my manifolds/downpipe repaired and replace the rest of the system which is totally fubar'd
The manifolds will be replaced once I've saved enough pennies or a set present themselves.
As I'm replacing the rest of the system it gives me the opportunity to go for a more custom system as my wedge has always been a little on the quiet side and I'm not keen on the way the exhaust routes toward the nearside of the car then running right across the back of the car to exit on the offside
To that end I'd like those that have custom exhausts to post any pics and any tips/warnings/recommendations that they may have with their set ups
I'm thinking of using Pipecraft as their very local and seem to have a good reputation so if anyone's used them id be glad to hear of their experience

Try JP Exhausts in Macclesfield, for a stainless one. Not sure how much they are these days, but a full system was only £300 27 yrs ago compared to a mild steel one from TVR at £600. Life time guarantee!, and mine is due to be replaced on that warranty.
My exhaust is stainless from the manifold couplings backwards (actually about 6" of each manifold is as well, it's better to have the joint all stainless), I knew the wadding wouldn't have lasted as long as the rest of the system and sure enough when I cut the silencer open there was hardly anything in it so I re-stuffed it with stainless wire wool.Cost nearly £40 but I think it's fair to say that the exhaust will outlast the rest of the car

Hi Ron..You might struggle a bit with the manifolds unless you are prepared to spend some serious money..Pipecraft don't do manifolds anymore..Maybe have a word with Bell hill or Possibly Douglas valley to see if they have a stainless set lying about as you never know..Or even good mild steel ones..Do away with the centre box and route accordingly into a sub bass boosting back muffler box into single 3" tailpipe...Yummy..If you hunt around you might be able to pick up a complete system for relatively low cost but it might mean a bit from here and a bit from there so to speak...Ziga
Try A14 Tyres Ltd at Bury st Edmunds,they quoted me just before a took my S1 off the road for winter £250 plus VAT and fitted,for both down pipes from the bottom manifold joint to the main exhaust under the car,these were for stainleess steel and made by them in the work shop,I have not had these done yet but will do this year.

I think I've asked this before about getting rid of the centre box, but have heard differing opinions re back pressure etc, and messing with what TVR did can often make it worse.bradderztvr said:

I don't think they are advanced enough to be effected by that..Back pressure is when the pressure backs up at the valves..Thats not something that can do any engine any good..I would want a good outflow of gases..Different if you have a highly tuned engine and exhaust then a certain amount of tailored flow is important ..Apparently its make believe that an engine "Needs" back pressure??...

my old silver wedge had a bespoke system from JP if I remember correctly, what I did like about it was it was straight through so nice and loud but the 2 back boxes had removable baffles you could insert to tone it down a bit.....clever huh

Out of interest, I'd also like to get my hands on a pair of the larger bore manifolds.....normal steel vs stainless are fine if anyone has any??? mine are currently the narrow / smaller type

Could speak to TopCats and see what Warren can sort out for you. My system was replaced last time the car was with him due to having to quieten the whole thing down (they can do the opposite for you!). Not sure what options exist for the manifolds as mine was from there back. Can take some piccies if you want.
I have SX400/400SE manifolds on mine which are a bit bigger...Unfortunately already gave the old mild ones to someone else a while back..There were rusty but in fairly good nick if i remember rightly...JP make the ACT exhausts so would have a template for the Wedge..Whether its cheaper contacting them directly i wouldn't know..I would still make some calls to "Douglas valley breakers" and "Bell hill garage" as to salvaging a system ..Even if the manifolds are from one and the rest is from another and then you have to get some straight pipe cut and welded in between..It should cost a hell of a lot less than a new system..It would give you a bit of grace to save up for a decent system if needed...Ziga
Is anyone running their pipes under the diff ?
I just found the modded suspension is right where the exhaust wants to be after it exits the silencer... so... as I've always thought it needs a pair of exhausts it's an "opportunity" rather than a problem. I'm thinking of going into a 2.5" to 2" Y piece after the silencer then running a pair of 2" pipes under the diff cradle which will then go up and into the rear spoiler.
End result should be similar to Blane's 400

Glenn I had sent you a couple of emails regarding your exhaust but Hallsie nipped in first. Like the way its routed and the straight through pipes under the car would give me lots more ground clearance - I think one of the reasons my exhaust is buggered it that it take so much of a battering on the speed humps round my way.
My current plan is to repair the manifold downpipes and cobble together a new system using a new box/boxes and pipework from the internet
Couldn't have come at a worse time financially as we've just paid up our family summer holiday,the family hack got rear ended at the weekend and I got rear ended in my work van on the way home last night.
They say it comes in threes
Need to get the car in the air and design a system that works for me then break out the welder
. Luckily my father in law is a welder/fabricator by trade although trying to pin him down to do something is a bit of a mission
