White wedge sit rep
Discussion
So after the debacle of buying the white wedge......I even offered the winner to buy the car off me for same price if he so desired (nice guy that I am)
Not heard back so let the jobs begin
Good bits =
- Engine strong, no rattles or knocks or smoke and pulls well (wasn't ticking over so a quick adjust of the idle screw solved that)
- Interior whilst it looks like a tramps been living in it, the seats are great as are the carpets and woodwork. A good clean is all that it needs.
- Rear hood is in great nick but a very random beige colour so will dye that black
- the handling is off the chart, far better than the 420SE, the Avo's whilst only 2000 miles old per the advert were installed in 1998 lol so a little rusty, they are set what feels very firm and she goes round corners great
- whilst I hate the wheels the yoko's grip like nothing else
- and with the exception of the fag lighter and boot release everything works (have rigged a cable as interim measure)
- pretty good service record, the service book is red leather with a nice silver engraved chassis number badge on the front, someone has clearly loved this car in the past
The not so good bits
- wheels out of balance at motorway speed the wheel is wobbling
- the steering column bulkhead bush is knackered
- on hard braking there is brake judder, can't tell if its front or rear or both
- paint work is fairly flat but reasonable condition and original. A good session with my polished should improve
- its done less than 2000 miles since 1999 so needs a full service and some fuel hoses as they are cracked
- chassis has had the riggers done and the rest looks ok but a little flakey, nothing a wire brush and a tin of hammerite can't solve
- that rear spoiler is not my taste so whipped that off (if anyone has a white boot with no holes let me know otherwise I'd pop some white plastic grommets in as a stop gap
So before the work begins its a lot nicer to work on a clean vs dirty car
Bit of a before and after of my engine bay after a heavy session of gunk and put my new jet wash to good use (thanks B&Q)

Been a couple of weeks in the garage getting fettled but I get to pick it up later this afternoon, cant wait
Another sterling job by Mike and the team at David Gerald TVR
This little lot has been done =
-Replace Steering column bush / bearing due to significant play
-Replace all fuel lines / filter front to back as perished and cracked and wasn't taking any chances
-Replace track rod ends as split
-Replace rear discs and pads due to rear brake judder
-Full Front & Back Geo Set up as rear camber was way out on one side
-Replace Outriggers due to turning to dust lol
-Service as she's been sat for yonks
Now its just the cosmetic stuff I can do when I get the old girl home.........busy weekend ahead me thinks :-)

Well done. Good luck with the bill. Remember, the total is the figure down the lower section of the invoice, their telephone number is the one higher up

LOL........fortunately I'm not in for any surprises....I know what the bill is already, these guys have been very good keeping me posted every step of the way with each thing needed. Top garage and very fair IMHO compared to other garages I've used over the years
Tony. TCB.
They will certainly get my business again

Hope I'm as pleased as you seem to be Glen...
My car is booked in Monday 12k service and MOT with them, not a great month for me as it all tallies together.
Service, mot, tax and insurance all needed by the end of the month
LOL, yes all jobs do tend to arrive at once to batter the wallet My car is booked in Monday 12k service and MOT with them, not a great month for me as it all tallies together.

Yeah at first that's the way I looked at it "Wallet getting a battering" but really when you analyze it it's not such a battering as you may think
Insurance quote just come in at 292.71 + tax 230.00 + 12k service 530 + mot (which I know I need them to look at screen washer not working) but lets says 150 for the mot then total should be around £1200.
So theatrically speaking all that needs to be added is fuel during the year. Of course the odd thing might need looking at but £1200 for all the main stuff ain't that bad for what the car is.
