Bought a nice set of 15" Compomotive Alloy wheels.....few marks and scratches but no bother as I want to repaint them satin black for my wedge

Tyres are almost new Bridgestones so better crack on

Time for a bloody good clean

Now to attack with a bit of wet and dry

After a good dry and wipe down with paint prep its mask up time.....my masking was sponsored by Chicago Town Pizza boxes, Sainsbury's carrier bags and an old Finding Nemo towel lol

Now lets crack on with the etch primer....couple of coats 15 / mins apart

so got to wait 24 hours for the top coat...will sand any imperfections tomorrow and report back once all done :-)

  1. satisfaction

Once I paint these bad boy calipers in Red and pick out the WILWOOD in white lettering peeking behind the wheels, should look good :-)

Well that's a pain in the back side grrrrr

Just checked the garage this morning and 2 wheels have dried perfectly......BUT

2 wheels, the paint surface has cracked......looks like some sort of reaction, weird that 2 are fine and 2 I need to re do

Net net need to re do 2 of them from scratch......I think I know what I'm doing tonight!!!

Only needs a drop of silicon polish on paint and nothing will ever stick to it again. Mind you there are other reactions: I recall my dad repeatedly stripping and spraying a Scimitar back in the early 80s that would go all crazy-paving within 24 hours, no matter how many times he flatted, sprayed isolator etc.

Hi mate...Was it the two fronts?..Could be contamination..Alloy needs to be degreased..Wiped over with a fast drying solvent and then keyed to create an adhesion for the etching primer..Also what paint type are you using..If its normal spray paint that too might have a problem when you come to top coats as not all paint is friendly with the primers..Personally i would go for a HT paint...Don't need VHT but at least it will be a bit more hard wearing...You can also apply whats called a few dry coats and then a wet coat ..It also needs to be impervious to oil/Water/Petrol.

I also think that the way forward is "Plasti-dip"...smile

Glen

Think it will look cool with those wheels. Have to say I'm a fan of traditional silver for wheels in general but each to their own.

Great job, looks a good finish.

Not sure fully black wheels look right, with a polished rim yes, but all black? All personal opinion though

No idea, how do you tell?...... they are still soft to the touch vs hard / soap like...........I plan on using the old girl on some summer track days so will no doubt burn through them soon enough and get some new boots

Not a personal choice......a budgetary choice lol

Bought it cheap yes but there are plenty of jobs to sort so spending wisely and having some fun in the process, budget didn't stretch to fancy polished rims :-)
