Whale Tail Spoiler on a 400SE or NOT !!!
Discussion
I have managed to source a SEAC rear spoiler and I am uncertain whether to fit it on the 400SE or not. Now having searched previous threads on this subject I see it is a very contentious subject but if anyone has a picture of a 390/400 SE with a SEAC rear spoiler on I would appreciate a look to aid my decision.
OK it may not be original but I really do like the SEAC rear spoiler on the rear of the wedge (How it compliments the full profile of an 400SE or not I am unsure) but second to buying a SEAC (If I find one but that would ultimately lead my wedge widow wife to start divorce proceedings) this is an option I would like to consider.
Thanks
Best regards

The bad boys spoiler looks OK apart from the wheels and the price

Great pictures, If I recall your SEAC or one similar was in the PH classifieds a good while ago, reminded me of a top gear test in late 80s, the SEAC was driven by a lady presenter, cannot recall her name but she had come to bed eyes
. Anyway all contributed towards my rocky road to wedge ownership.
OK spoiler arrives Tuesday/Wednesday so will have a look but at the moment I am 40% for 60% against (Thanks to Nhyde and redcar)

My own personal opinion is that the 400SE spoiler looks really great .. nice porportions etc .. good upgrade if you don't have one already.
But really only a SEAC should wear a SEAC spoiler .. but I really don't give a damm if someone fit's a SEAC spoiler to another wedge.
Owners choice..

I agree. I think the rear of the 400SE with curved lower spoiler and subtle upper spoiler looks much better that the back of a SEAC...dare I admit it!
However if you want to fit a SEAC spoiler, you fit a SEAC spoiler

Did have both a 400 and the SEAC . To me the 400 arrangement suits the car . The SEAC spoiler is totally over the top but again , that goes with the car
.
My main objection is that there are 55 SEAC's , and without wishing to open old wounds , look at the debate that surrounded "The Firefox" ( Sorry JJ , not questioning the car again) .
Bottom line is , it's your car , so you may do as you please !!!
AS LONG AS YOU ENJOY
IT !!

You are qualified to get away with that comment Red
My opinion is what ever floats your boat. My advice if you go ahead is to fit it at a bigger angle to let the water drain off! Check out the way its fitted on the Yellow Racer.
Over the years I have seen several non SEAC cars with SEAC spoilers, I have also seen a few 400 SEs with zender spoilers (normally only fitted to 350s and 390s) - from the back most wouldn't be able to tell the difference, although obviously all of us would, but then who cares - if you like the look of it and you want a SEAC spoiler on your car then plop the fella on, if you don't like it you can always take it off again
In my opinion the SEAC spoiler looks great on a SEAC but naff on a SE and very max on any other models - probably to do with the respective size of the flared arches.
The combination of the SE rear lower spoiler and the SEAC upper spoiler just doesn't seem to work for me.
The SE type spoiler does suit 350's though and the Zender suits 390's but really the only body shapes able to carry off the SEAC spoiler convincingly are the SEAC's.

Well the 40/60% decision split has changed, spent sometime looking at the 400SE last night then took a close look at the difference between a SEAC and SE bodies. As with many of these things one looks at the overall car but until you study them closely you notice design difference. Following the lines of both (Ignoring rear spoilers) you can see how much rounder the SEAC is compared to the SE and how much softer/rounder the SE is compared to it’s predecessors (Though they all still look pretty much in your face). In particular on the rear of the SEAC there is no lower spoiler just a smooth transition under the car while the SE looks more angular and has a blunt (but to me quite attractive) rear.
Looking at the option now I have decided to leave the SE with its original spoiler, to me the SEAC spoiler looks just right on a SEAC and vice versa with the SE. The SE spoiler blends better with the overall car and enhances it’s appearance, but that said I don’t think the SEAC spoiler looks too out of place on an SE, to me each to their own and as pointed out it is personnel preference.
Anyway many thanks for the feedback
Best regards
