confused Hi, just thought I'd wind my Wedge 2.8i over now that the engine is in. No problem with the starter connection but were the bl**dy h*ll has the lead gone for the oil pressure sender.madmad All the leads for the ignition/injector systems are present but am I missing something? I assume the oil pressure sender wire is part of the nearside wiring loom? There just doesn't seem to be any wire on either side which would connect with the sender. Can anyone help please? I took this project on with the engine in boxes so corporate knowledge is nil. I guess alternately it's a re-wire from the gauge. Thanks for any help. J C.

The oil light and gauge sender wires IIRC are both brown with a tracer (brown/black and brown/white ring a bell). On my car they're in the loom with the wires to the back of the alternator and drop down the side of the block.

Thanks Wedgle. My alternator loom is on the drivers side but cursory examination showed only 3 wires into the alternator plug. However I've 3 wires crossing underneath the engine to the starter. Obviously large power lead to the starter,a smaller spade connection to the starter coil plus a third push on connection which fits on to the starter as well? Why? I'm now wondering if this is the oil pressure sender connection? However initially earthing it didn't produce full scale deflection as earthing the temp' connection. Further investigation required I guess. Has a 1984 2.8i have an oil pressure light as well as a gauge and does it use the same sensor on the left side, front of the engine block? Thanks for any help, I just hope the previous owner when removing the engine didn't take part of any wiring with it? rolleyes Thanks again. J C.

on the 2.8 block, are you sure it isn't a capillary tube connected to the front of the block about mid way on the passenger side?

Could be wrong!

This us how my old 280 oil pressure gauge worked. Capillary tube from block to gauge.

Thanks Stu, I don't think my gauge is a direct pressure gauge as I've wound the engine over a few times and no oil has leaked from the block. Thinking back to my Simitar days which had the Essex V6, that had a capilary operated gauge. May be early Cologne engines did? Thanks for the info though. J C
