Help please- 350i throttle cable
Discussion
Hi All
When taking the car for a blat last weekend I floored it along the A27 only for the pedal to drop to the floor.
On inspection I have found the common problem of a freyed cable. I also can't find the clip which is used to stop the nipple coming out of the pedal end.
Can someone please tell me where I can get a cable. I have been into my local factors who unfortunately don't have the enthusiasm or drive to do the detective work!
Mine is an '89 350i and here is a picture of the cable itself (hoping it comes out OK!!)

Cheers
Adi

Right as long as your outer is okay then get yourself one of these...(Check length)...

And some good quality...

Slacken off the old cable with the large adjuster nut, You can adjust it up again once the new inner is in.
Then carefully remove the split pin from the shackle pin ..(Do not loose)...Go inside the car and cut the old inner...Then withdraw the old cable at the plenum end..Make sure the pedal top is clean, Don't worry about the clip you won't need it now.
Then once you have you cable snip off the opposite shackle end that you don't need, The little eyelet...The end with the rubber boot is what you need also keep the boot as that will fit as well.
Cut it as close to it as you can...You can put a tiny piece of masking tape on the tip of the cable to avoid it fraying or catching but if you cut it properly then you shouldn't need to...
Thread the cable from the plenum side so that the end you cut off comes through inside the car...Attach the shackle to the throttle body and fit a new split pin....
Then in the foot well place the terminal connector carefully over the inner avoiding any fraying...Adjust so that the pedal sits where it did before and tighten the screws down..Check for correct height and adjust at the block or if good then tighten fully...Job done....Half the price of notsospeedycables and still have all the pieces that you simply CANNOT get...(Courtesy of JV)...

Some people have used a bicycle brake inner to replace it, with a "chocolate block" inner to secure the end.
Before you replace it see if you can get the pedal lever off, because I have found the fraying comes from sharp edged where the cable passes through. So round them off with a needle file or a deburring bit.

Thanks Guys
...and there was me hoping you might say 'you need throttle cable part number xyz it's a straight forward fit'!! Silly me!
But sounds easy enough to sort out.

It would be mate if there was anyone to get the large crimped fitting from...I managed to find most of the other bits...This method is a bit fiddly but is reportedly better than the original.......and there was me hoping you might say 'you need throttle cable part number xyz it's a straight forward fit'!! I had good experiences with speedycables, maybe I'm the exception! I did have to send them the old one and they copied it.
Apparently they cannot get the fittings for the outer cable so are not able to make a complete cable..They will do the inner for £30 + Postage and thats why its a better option to use the landy one and a good quality connector block. The crimped on part was the piece they could not get...I found the large nut in America but no crimp adjuster thread.
I got mine from TGA in Wolverhampton ( http://www.topgearautomotive.co.uk/ )
