On my Wedge, the front discs are covered with a large plastic dust cover just behind the wheel. This is a useful thing to have as it saves the front wheels from getting covered in brake dust. I have only come across this once before and am wondering if it was a standard fitting from new, or is it an after market addition? If so, are they still available? I don't need one as my ones seem in good condition, but just curious to know it's history from someone in the know. The rear wheels are always clean as the discs are inboard. In effect, I rarely need to wipe any of the four wheels on my car and the lack of brake dust, I think, preserves the alloy finish. Just a thought.

I'm sure they was an after market add-on. they can restrict some air flow to the disc's so not advised to use if you push the car hard a lot.

I think they used to be called Wheel Clean Discs if I remember right, don't think they still make them.

Tony, they were on the car when I bought it and I was the same as you in as much as they did a good job of saving the wheels from mega dusting so left them on. I never noticed any issues with brake fade even when pressing on a bit so unless you are intending to go on the track with the car they will be fine

In the box of bits that came with my 350i there are two black plastic dust covers for the disks. I've never fitted them and don't intend to but if anyone wants them then let me know.

I definitely wouldn't be using them on a car which did trackdays - in fact I think it is even suggested removing the inner shields on a track-orientated car.

I had some on the 350i and took them off they are in my garage.

Mine are thin pressed metal, not your cheapo melty plastic.

It's certainly very interesting that they appear on the sales invoice from new. I understand why most wouldn't use them on track events but these are more for moderate road use. They do keep the wheel clean and anything that saves time and energy must be worth having in my book. Also, it must be good for the alloys in the long run. I hardly ever have to wipe them.

I purchased a set for my 350i in 1988 from The Factory. Think they were an optional extra. They have thin metal centres with a thick rubber type disc that fits right into the inside of the wheel. Definitely preserves the condition of the wheel

They are perfect for lattice wheels if you don't drive like a loon. When I got my most recent set of lattice wheels refurbished I thought i'd get a set - but gave up in the end.

I remember them from my boy racer days. Today I dug out my oldest RIPSPEED brochure (dated January 1993) and there they are, by CarFlow.....

Google returns some companies, an amazing 22 years later, but they seem stateside, so I gave up grumpy

If you do find a UK supplier, post it here..... thumbup

I prefer to be a bit more "Hands on" and use...

This for the wheels overall..

This for the spokes..

And a squirt of this...

Then rinsed off with this stuff.

Zig, you do surprise me. For a man that wants everything shiny at all times, I'd have thought you'd have a stack of these covers. Besides, what's happened to all that, save water, energy and detergent use, lark. Not to mention my bad back. Save the planet, get youselves a set of keep clean wheel covers. Preserve your shiny alloys.

Indeed. I had them (thin metal) on my 350 at the time as the lattice wheels were difficult to keep clean without. Didn't bother on the 390 or 450 with the 5 spoke wheels.
