Need a ECU ...
Discussion
Hi all,
Still in the process of getting the 350i 2+2 on the road, and the final hurdle is here ... Car currently has a custom ECU unit which is great, but it's for a turbo/supercharged engine (which a previous owner did run) but need something for an atmospheric car as the forced induction unit is no longer there.
Been told these are hard to find in working condition, so anyone has a clue on where to find a Lucas 4 CEU fuel control unit? All help much appreciated! The sooner I have this, the sooner I'll finally be driving.
Grts, Pieter

Hi Pieter...I should imagine that you would need a TVR ECU 4CU from another 350i Wedge of roughly the same year..As i understand it they are not a plug and play from another vehicle and some specific resistors were fitted..(4 i think)...It might work out expensive if you have to buy a second hand unit because for peace of mind i would have it tested and rebuilt ..(If needed)...
I have one that belongs to a friend but i think its for a 390SE...Although i did drop it on the floor...It landed flat which probably didn't do it any good....Ill find out what it was exactly from and if he wants to part with it...Cheers...Ziga

Better still I will do a swap - I have a spare standard one and I can check it's running against my engine. I'll even throw in a free PCB reflow if you like.
Does the one you have still fit on the 4CU loom multiplug?
Incidentally I've been following the flea and someone keeps putting them up at around £160 each, then lately he's upped it to £200. That seems rather a lot.

I just picked up an AFM and ECU for £70. They had been on a 3.5V8 EFi fitted to a Triumph Stag. Both work fine on the Wedge, but I'm keeping them to go with the spares pile, just in case!Does the one you have still fit on the 4CU loom multiplug?

What custom ECU do you have, if its an after market one then they should be able to be reprogrammed for a NA engine ?
Exactly -over the years owners are having more and more problems with the original ECUs. Going aftermarket gives proper control of the fuelling (and ignition depending on the installation). If yours does the latter particularly, keep it and get it re-mapped. Also useful for any future engine upgrades, which becomes problematic with the standard unit. Having fully mapped ignition is definitely worth having.hillclimbmanic said:
I don't know if you're still after an ECU...I have one from my old 390se, complete with afm, and filter...The guy from Finland who bought it, had an aftermarket ecu...

Manic
I would be interested in ECU and AFM as spares for my 390SE if no one else needs them to get their Wedge running. How much do you want? Cheers. Regards,
Manic

ANy idea how much you are after for the ecu etc.
I'm thinking of a spare one for my 350SE in case anything goes wrong?
Mike
I don't think the 390SE ECU would work with a 350i...Good for another 390SE...However getting your old ECU is the best thing you can do for your Wedge...You won't need a spare if you go this route..£200 with a lifetime guarantee can't be bad....ZigaI'm thinking of a spare one for my 350SE in case anything goes wrong?
