You MUST use a limited slip diff oil otherwise it'll be b'ggered in no time, I use a Valvoline slippy diff oil which seems to work fine, available from Central auto supplies , you'll probably have a a local branch

just to double check,i have just drained diff oil on mk1 84 350i can see no tabs on diff cover. Both wheels of ground when first turned one wheel in one direction very slowly other wheel turned in same direction for less than a quarter turn, when tried again with either wheel opposite wheel always turns in opposite direction which---diff Please. Original plate on wing states Castrol hypoy ep90 would this be right

Thanks ufr

Tried to get to get Duckhams hypoid 90DL and Castrol hypoy LS and Valoline slippy diff oil,but can't get any,no body does it near LEICESTER.Also tried TVR dealers at Melton Mowbruy, they say they have no parts or oil for 350i's,so phoned up R.T. racing and he said use Halfords 90SD oil. I just wondered if any body else has used this oil on power/lock diff's.

Silkolene do a 90 LSD oil, if you can find a stockist, and check out Demon Tweeks - they list Motul LSD. I've also used Mobil 1 SHC 75-90 gear oil which although it doesn't specifically say so, Demon Tweeks absolutely insisted that it was suitable when I questioned them. I have used it in the past, although I don't have it in at the moment since I had the diff rebuilt (don't think this was down to the Mobil).

Standard diff. No need for hypo oil but should not do any harm.
