OK guys, can anyone help to confirm that the pictures
Here are of a chassis from a Wedge and more importantly is it suitable for a 350i. I'm not sure what the differences are between a 400SE and 350 chassis. Mine has round outriggers where as this on seem's to have square. I am also not sure about the plates just at the end of the outriggers, next to the rear tie bar mountings.
The engine bay area certainly looks as thought it should be for a V8. If so I'm sure I have the resouces and ability to modify the rest to suit.

Comments welcome.

Cheers,

Mick

Certainly looks like my 400 chassis with the square outriggers. My 350 had round tubes I seem to remember. The two plates ahead of the rear tie bar mounts are for the outside lower seat belt fixing bolts.

Thanks Paul,

I think that basically the 400SE & 350 chassis are the same save for minor details which shouldn't be a problem.

Wondered if anyone here had done a similar swap

That is a 400/450 chassis.

The outrigger design is different for a 350/390. For a start the outriggers are square, whereas the 350 should be round, and the body mounting points are totally different.

Rich.

I wouldn't have thought it was totally unsuitable: I doubt they modified the shells all that much at the same time. Seems to me the main difference (square tubes aside) is where the sill mounting plates would be on a 350/ 390, the 400/450 has none, but has plates under the floor (at the corners) instead.

I'd bloody make it fit

Hallo,

IMHO the pictures show a PRE-A frame 350i chassis.
So certainly not suitable for wedges after around 1986.

greetings from Holland
Hans.

Tending to agree with you there Ian. Just a bit of measuring required. make up some new plate and away we go..

It's not a trailing-arm chassis - the mounting plates for the big swivel-pin doughnuts are not there, as far as I can see.

Some pics from the side at the rear would be of help.

Quickest way to tell if it's a t/arm chassis or not is to check the rearmost outrigger tubes (from spine to sill). On the A-frame cars it was moved forward, on a t/arm car it meets the end of the sill tube.

Besides, AFAIK the square tubing was never used on a t/arm chassis.

I may be completely wrong here, but I thought the 400 chassis was not quite as wide as a 350 chassis.

On a 350, the outriggers are in the fibreglass sill, which has to be removed for access.

I thought on a 400, the outrigger didn't go into the sill area, as the sill is not removable. So, either the sill has to be 'modified' to remove the body, or the outrigger is not inside the sill.

If this is the case, that probably make the 400 chassis unsuitable for a 350 body.

Anyone got a photo of the underneath of a 400 with the body on to clarify?

Rich.
