Right I know this post will probably result in a deluge of replies (fingers crossed), so here goes:
I NEED MORE POWER....fellow Wedgers what are your suggestions on power upgrades for a 350i Wedge and which companies? (without installing a 4.6 or 5 litre motor please - I'm not made of money or so my wife tells me

I think I spent about 2K getting together a decent 4.5BV with reasonably upgraded injection system - jag afm, larger plenum, lower trumpets etc etc. 390 - 300 bhp ?? - still gathering the guts to put on brothers rolling road
I did mine on the cheap and over several months with quite a few lucky bids on Ebay, then when finally put in the engine to replace the 4l instead of the 3.5 as origianlly planned ! Very surpised with the results and a complete transformation with what seems like a lot of power under my right foot.
I reckon you could probably get a 2nd had Griff or Chim 40. 4.5 lump for about £1k and then slowly build onto it and have it ready for that fateful day - if it happens - when the 350 expires.
All I still need to do now is replace the knackered piston and cylinder head in the old 4.0l and take my time in rebuilding it before it all rusts away in the shed.

remove trumpets from base , shorten by 25mm ( with lathe to keep straight) and replace, this retunes the engine to higher speed = more power but more importantly unmasks the middle 4 from the plenum roof for even more power.
Make a phenolic resin spacer to go between the trumpet base and manfold ( see www.ryanplastics.co.uk, reduces intake temp by 10-15°
Should yeild about 10-15Bhp on an otherwise std 350

Sounds too good to be true
- but I am not doubting this, just surprised TVR didnt do it. But there again we are now 2 decades further forward with tuning development arn't we?

If you tune for more power won't you lose it in the middle range? I did the reverse on an MG Midget. Increase the tuned length to give more mid speed torque and then ported the head to try to get back what I'd lost at the top. This will work for a non stressed engine (and you certainly couldn't call the 1275 A series anything else) but may not have the same effect on a more tuned engine.
Quite true but as the std tuning speed is 5400Rpm and the engine is safe to 6250Rpm this makes better use of what the engine is capable of. Also you get gains across the range by unmasking the middle four trumpets. Depenging on how thick you make the phenolic spacer you could recover tuning length this way while keeping the airflow gains.

Why be surprised about anything TVR did or didn't do - if you look at the 500 trumpets, they're just straight tubes (albeit larger bore) with no flares at all - that can't be good for ultimate flow. I know it would have been a tight fit, but JE used to notch their trumpets to fit. Too time consuming I guess.
