Question; When fitting new back lights, were they sealed with black mastic/sicaflex from new?

Cheers

Hi Stevo...I think the sicaflex was recommended to me for just that job...Make sure the lights fit first though as there has been issues fitting new rear lights even if they are new/Old stock!....

The guy who did the paintwork says it shouldn't have it in, he's no TVR expert, think its just his opinion but was wondering if it was actually a factory fitment.

I have some kind of sealant around mine and its a bit ragged so was going to redo it with some Sicaflex but haven't yet...I guess if the lights were made for the car they are going in then no sealant would probably of been needed...However it is a TVR with donor rear lights that are upside down...Maybe it does??

If the rear lights didn't have some ponge ((c) Adam Quantrill biggrin) around them the boot would fill up with water every time it rained.
My car has black ponge, other cars may differ.
Sikaflex 291i is my ponge of choice. If it's good enough for boats it's good enough for Wedges biggrin

It's polyurethane, not silicon, and IIRC paint will stick to it.
I first used it on a mobile darkroom we built at work for an oil rig, that's what was specified by the marine engineers.

I suppose the simple question would be; does anyone NOT have it in?
