A few bits needed, 350i
Discussion
Does anyone know where I might be able to pick up the following bits for a 350i
Gear stick (lt77)
The rubber gaiter for the above.
Boot opener/ lever, I have the catch in place but its operated by pulling on a boot lace
Front fog light lens n/s looks like mine has been sand blasted.
All four bonnet/boot struts
Here's hoping

Are they fog lights or driving lights? On the DL you can see through the lens, there are vertical lines in the glass. On the FL the lens has lots of patterns in it to create the beam shape, harder to see through.
The DL ones are hard to find whereas the fogs are quite common, I have a couple of mint ones.
The rubber gearshift boot was originally taken from the Ford Sierra but are now hard to find; it's not a critical part so people modify all sorts to fit, I hear a VW one is a good starting point. The main thing is that it has to be large enough to hide the enormous hole in the tunnel and ideally have a flat base to allow screwing it down onto a bead of sealant to keep fumes out.
The bonnet/boot gas rams are all the same and were originally rated at 100N(Newtons) force. Although many cars have rams that will fit (I was told twenty years ago that they were from the early RangeRover but have yet to prove this, later Rangies have much more powerful rams fitted) most of them are rated too high with the risk that they could rip the threaded mountings out of the fibreglass.
There are aftermarket ones available which come pre-charged and have a bleed valve to allow you to depressurise until you get the force you want but if you overdo it they can't be pumped back up.

As said for the struts...Originally the front bonnet struts..On my 280i at least were from the Ford capri tailgate...Hence the earthing terminals that are on them...Initially for the rear heated screen but TVR utilised it to act as a suppressor for the RFI.
The Cibie driving lights are still available but are not cheap...I have used the Peugeot 205 GTI fogs as they are pretty much identical.

There was a couple of alternatives for the rubber boot cover..One was a Subaru Forrester i think...There was a recent thread on here...Ill see if i can dig it up.
Is your boot lock a puller like the 280i or a button?
If a puller than an MG bonnet release should fit.
Something like this although make sure its long enough...Should be...

Hope this helps

another option for the boot release that i have used on my s series, is any universal type choke cable and pulling handle though a bonnet release does make more sense now i think about it ;-)

Thanks for the replies, sounds like a visit to the scrappy would be a good idea . The lens appears to have no lines, Have just taken another look at the boot, I think I've been barking up the wrong tree. I assumed that the hole which the boot lace is coming through should be where a release lever should be, but I think it should contain another number plate light. So where should the boot opener be found ?
Thanks
martin
Thanks

Open your drivers door and look on the inner door pillar, There should be a button or pull for the boot release.,Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
