Welder for chassis work recommendations - N London / Herts
Discussion
Hello all,
At last inspection I was told that the chassis and outriggers on my 97' Griffith were very good apart from one area of the chassis which needed attention and has been temporarily repaired by my TVR specialist.
I'm hoping that this means a section can be replaced by a skilled welder.
Can anyone recommend someone close to me in North London / Herts ?
Many thanks,
Stu

Does Leigh or Ian carry out repairs to the TVR community??
That aimed at me?
I have done a couple of sill repairs for people, one is detailed on my website (Tony Mather's '84 white FHC that later went to Germany). The biggest issue is I live 100s of miles away from anywhere... I think the only other wedgers up this way are Dixie, Carob and GasWedge, all of whom are better with the spanners than I am (and/or have so much money they could pay real mechanics to do the work for them
).I guess as a ballpark I'd put in three days at £100 a day plus materials; now there was a time when you could buy enough steel for both sill rails and all four plates and have change from £12 but I think the last length of 1.5" tube I bought cost £40!
Anyone who charges £700 is looking for early retirement; it wouldn't necessarily take three days but you can't rule out unforeseens with these cars... and if you think £100 a day is cheap, it's more than I get paid for my day job!
