Hi Gents
I want to change the diff oil on my 280i diff and would like a bit of advice my diff has got the ratio on a tag on the back of the diff but no other tag so i am assuming it is not a powerlok diff is it just normal EP gear oil in the diff is there any way of knowing if it is a normal diff or a powerlok Diff if there is no tag or were the 280i's not fitted with a powerlok diff any info would be appreciated

Jack up the rear turn prop shaft if both wheel go the same way it's limited slip diff . If both wheel go in different directions it's not I want to change the diff oil on my 280i diff and would like a bit of advice my diff has got the ratio on a tag on the back of the diff but no other tag so i am assuming it is not a powerlok diff is it just normal EP gear oil in the diff is there any way of knowing if it is a normal diff or a powerlok Diff if there is no tag or were the 280i's not fitted with a powerlok diff any info would be appreciated

As far as I know, the 280 did not have a powerlok diff as standard, only the more powerful models had it.
If you have a 4 speed box, the OE ratio is 3.07 :1 Mine has a tag which says 3.068 on it. It's not very obvious, it's on one of the rear banjo case bolts.
I think the 5 speeders have 3.36 ? (somewhere around there anyway).
This all assumes it's original of course....
