Afternoon guys. I had a track day yesterday at Blyton in North Lincs. The track was good and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The problem I have is when selecting 2nd and forth gear, you can lift the gear stick up an inch and it sounds like a metal rod rattling inside a copper tube which you can feel knocking when you select either gear, I think a bush has gone or something has come loose( I hope and pray) how do you remove the gear stick gaiter without removing the whole top panel?? or is this a terminal gearbox issue???

Easy one it's the bushes on the frame that the gearstick holds onto outside the box.

However you get at them from below.

Yes as adam says its the bushes on the remote gear linkage that are knackered. Not that dear to get a pig of a job to do though. I have done mine about 2 months ago and the difference in gear change is very noticeable.

You only have to do the rearward facing ones which aren't too hard - I replaced mine with rigid copper tube - they'll never rot again.

Thanks for the info. Bugger though as I don't have a ramp or pit and being a larger bloke I cant get under the bloody thing. Hmmmm will think of a plan of attack.

One quick bodge is to tie up the remote linkage frame to the chassis with tie wraps or similar, stops it dropping down onto the prop. You can do this from above but you have to remove the central leather bit. Then fix it properly when you can get it in the air. My local garage allows me to use their outdoor 4-poster occasionally.

I did the tie wrap botch adam and used it for over12 months before the tie wrap broke and that forced me to do it properly. Got to love tie wraps.

Hi

Your gearbox should be a LT77.

Hi there looking at your picture it's a 350 se (what number by the way ? i've got number 26 )
I've also got a 350 se and the box in mine is an LT75.
Reverse from memory is up and to the left. (I haven't driven the car for 6 months)
Some people fit the later R380 which is an updated LT77.
From memory the reverse position is in a completely different position.(ie behind the 5th gear where 6th would be on a moden box.

I saw at least one wedge at BBWF this year with (probably) a T5 (well it wasn't the LT77 pattern...)
