Hi guys,
BBWF looked really nice!
Can you guys tell me the model ECU and ECM the 350 uses and which donor vehicle they came from?
Thanks

Hi Charlie

As i understand it they were what come with the Land Rover Discovery 1 engines that were used but TVR tweaked them slightly...I believe there is a resistor in the ECU to stop it from starting on the button so that the oil has a chance of getting pumped up to the top of the engine..I could be talking twaddle though as i have been drinking Whiskey......"Slurp slurp"

When I was investigating a misfire on my 350i last year I bought a spare Landrover V8 ECU to check to see if that was the issue. I noticed no difference whatsoever in performance or start up.

Mark you have had a few too many matey yes lol!

The 4CU Lucas box is basically the same and comes from the Rover SD1 EFi and LR Discovery V8 versions

It is not an ECU in the true sense of the word but is a timer and switching box.

In the later and bigger capacity engines retaining the flapper type AFM there may have been some tweeks to the 4CU box but I have looked in some and did not spot any obvious changes as far as I am aware

Ahh but the Disco come out in 1989 (that surprised me too) you're probably thinking of the Rangey. Ex LR units do run but the enrichment curve is different so you may experience some flat spots, apart from the other issue of matching any substitute ECU to the AFM.

Range Rover Classic with 3.5 Efi. I think that's where my spare cam from.

Yep! yes Had a long chat with BBA techs who had a test simulator for the 4CU and 14CUX boxes and he tested a 4CU 350i and 3.5 Disco and 400SE box and they were all the same under test conditions but who knows what went on on a Fri afternoon at the factory !

It's the Lucas 4CU unit - in the case of the 350i it's the version used on the SD1 Vitesse, and VDP EFI.
The entire fuel injection system is identical to that used on the 3.5 EFI Range Rover classics, with the exception that the ECU on a Range Rover has a slightly different tune.

Most of these ECUs suffer from dry solder joints, however they're all through hole components so can be reflowed quite easily.
It's also possible to convert one ECU 'tune' to another by changing a few component values.
