Hi gents, for my birthday yesterday the missus bought me a very nice car polisher. Amazed that she'd noticed I'd left one in the Amazon "basket" for the last 2 months hehe Anyway just wondering what polishing compound people generally use? I have heard good things about Farecla G3. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Hi Keith.

The G3 products are good but i believe they are applied with an applicator in a up and down movement and not rotational....I would check the products application beforehand...

Ah you are right. Looks like autogylm have stopped doing the 2 stage kit and replaced it with a simpler 1 stage http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/autoglym-rapid-renov...
I've clearly not used this so don't know how good.
The 2 stage afair had 2 levels of abrasive compounds but maybe they have redesigned?

Hi Glen and Mark, thanks for the info. I'll order some up and see how they perform. Cheers.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what polishing machine offers best value for an amateur?

Generally you get what you pay for!

Did a bit of research and asking a couple of years back when I was after one and consensus was the DAS 6.

Used it for paint restoration with Farecla G3 and various grades of sanding disc for body work.

Dual action polishing machine, a tiny bit of G3 and plenty of water.
My cousin owned his own bodyshop, and I used to work with him in the summer holidays. Only thing to be careful with G3 (or any other cutting compound) is if you stay in one spot too long, it will burn the paint. Oh, and dont apply too much pressure on edges or you will cut through the paint.

I was always taught to go up and down, or side to side with the machine, always keeping a wet edge.

Once happy with G3, you can switch to G10 ... for that mirror shine (works well on darker colours), before getting out the wax

I swapped to 3M green top as it does not fling off like the Farcela..
