Hi all
Recently I've been thinking of selling up the wedge and moving on to something else
Think this is borne out of
A: Moving into my 7th year of wedge ownership
B: Just not using the wedge much this year
I think its a little bit of " familiarity breeds contempt"
Anyway I've been browsing the classifieds looking for something to replace the wedge with and......cant find anything that comes close to giving me what the wedge does - well not in my price bracket anyway.
So the question is - what would you buy to replace your wedge?? I'm talking "real world" cars here, its something to replace your wedge not fantasy garage stuff,so your price limit is the value of your wedge plus £3000.
Lets see what you come up with smile

I'm with Number7.
I have a 280i, if changing it, it would be to a V8 wedge. But it would be an addition of a bigger badder wedge, not a replacement.

all together now....

There is nothin' like a wedge,
Nothin' in the world,
There is nothin' you can drive
That is anything like a wedge!
Nothin' else is built the same,
Nothin' in the world
As the soft and wavy frame
Like the silhouette of a wedge!

If I got rid of my Wedge, I would be looking at a more modern sports car. Something that's not quite a classic yet but will be some day. The cars in this bracket are value for money at the moment. They are fast and reliable. Something along the lines of a Z3M, Z4M, SLK 55 AMG, or even a boxer 3.2S

Not sure I would want to sell the SEAC but add to the collection with something with a super charger on it, a modern classic bay be.
Just need to get started on my Taimar...
I dont think this is an easy question to solve.
Plus most people that really like Tivs that sell tend to regret there choice some where down the like and I think it like a pair of old shoes that just feel right when you put them on, it like that in the wedge, the sense of occupation every time the car starts.
Dont see ive owned the SEAC for over 13 years and counting.

Thinking about one of these in the future, I'd like to be able to go out on a Sunday with the ladies of the family. I don't want to sell the Wedge though, but I can't have two toy cars.

This one has a V8 in it :-)

Got to be an 'S' thumbup

For example

But you should get a very nice one for the budget you're suggesting.

Great choice. They're pretty good with just the V6.

Trouble is, everything has good and bad things about them - that Scimitar looks beautiful, but, having had one, they are just as bad as a wedge in many ways....

Now I'm old and getting creaky, I would seriously consider a 'Q' car as an alternate to the wedge, if I was going that way.
Probably not a 'sports' profile, as they can be murder to get in and out of, especially for a tall old bugger like me.
But I still love the power to overtake, so -

My 'Q' shortlist (without really thinking about it too much) and reasonable prices (I hope)

One of the BMW Alpinas 3.0 or 3.5 L6.
A V8 Audi saloon.
A Toyota Blade (a 200Kw Corolla)
A Golf R32 , one of those variants (and small Audi ?)
A Nissan Skyline (but some models look terrible)

There must be more....um......

Jensen Interceptor well, in its original form, the reliability was AWFUL. One with more modern bits however ...

What's in the Lotus Omega ? (been away from Uk for too long). OH, looked up wiki - I see that is a sort of Oz/UK hybrid, with
Lotus developed L6. Power looks good for 1990.

I know they sell the Oz (and NZ) Holden Commodore V8 as a Vauxhall Omega VXR (?) or something like that - they make a turbo version in Oz too. eek

Modern Mustang V8 - should have added that too...

I went from wedge to Interceptor and had it for 7 years. Rebuilt the 7.2 ltr V8, repainted it and sold it for half what it would be worth now that prices have leapt. Nice car, but dypsomaniac thirst and the bodies are horrifically expensive to repair when they rust, which is why I sold it - I could see what was coming. both cars had the same attraction though, massive "grin factor" for your money.

...Which led me to my Maserati 3200GT. probably less than $10k in UK but not for too much longer. Lineage back through the Shamal to the Khamsin and check the prices of a Shamal now! Only 10 years older than a 3200GT and outclassed in every way. Just don't buy a bad one...

At the end of the day you have to balance the head and the heart, but you only live once right?

Like Campbell - not planning on selling my SEAC anytime soon .. but have owned other TVR's since buying it such as Griff 500 & T350C.

Other cars since - Clio 182, Focus RS mk2, Golf GTI edition 30 and finally Merc SLK AMG 55 biggrin

If I ever sell my Tiv I think the previous gen SLK55 would be my first choice. It just ticks so many boxes and now that I'm an old fart the fact that the gearbox and roof are automatic would be a bonus!
