Hi,Can anybody tell me are the front fog lights part of the MOT,as mine work when you flash your lights, but not when you press switch on,thanks Ken.

Mine failed an MOT due to a shot bulb holder, but then told by someone else that it should not have been a fail even if it only comes on with the main beam as it does on the 400?

Edited to add, seems the someone else was right

I believe, as with all optional ancilliaries (rear wiper), if they're fitted they must work.

I believe only the rear fog (if it was originally required on the car) is subject to testing.

Similar to other age-related items like seat belts.

I'm 99% certain the REAR wipe/wash is not tested.

The MOT is primarily about safety, both yours and other motorists, and pedestrians (hence no raggedy bodywork or protruding nasties allowed).

The front spoiler lights are driving lights, wired to only come on with main beam / flash. Pretty sure this function is not MOT'able.

Sounds like I'm wrong then.....

I'm sure I've had to sort out a rear wash wipe before!!! Perhaps Mr MOT was being pedantic.

Mine has failed before on front fogs. Was only a rusty connector though so I didn't mind.

Thanks for all your help, all I got to do now is to sort the horns out,as sometimes they don't work and I think only one is working (when it works),as it sounds realy low and perfectic, may be a bad earth.
Can you ajust these horns?
,there are some round things connected to them, what look like condensors.I don't know what these are for.

The connectors on both my wedge cars for the dual horns were mounted upside down so the connectors would rattle loose and eventually fall off intermittently - good TVR placement.

I think I cable tied them on in the end after cleaning the connectors of crud.

Another thing it might be is fibre glass dust in the horn push button connector ring on the steering wheel.

Apparently the factory is covered in grp dust and it gets into everywhere. It gets nto the horn push connector and just gathers other crud over the years until it causes the button to fail or be intermittant.

Could be worth a good clean with contact cleaner.

Hmm. That's interesting. My 350 has the horn operated by pushing the end of the indicator stalk. Does this mean its non-standard? Or is it just the 'third Thursday in the month' version?

No, the horn's on the stalk on my car... and it was on the '80 Tasmin, too... though my car has a horn push in the middle of the wheel, there's no provision for wiring, contacts etc. on the column or wheel.

My horns work off the stalk as well ,I had to strip both of them down and they where all rusty inside,so cleaned them up and they both work now, after figgying about with ajustment screw. They sound a bit odd,but at least they work at the moment, thanks Ken.
