This is a proof of a decal I'm having made. It covers the whole switch panel and give a nice satin finish without painting. Before I confirm and have one printed would anyone like to comment on the layout and style of the "legends" eg 'DEF' 'WARM' 'CAR' etc? My original plate was a bit tatty so copying the font and layout has been a bit tricky.

I'll post up a picture of the final version when I get it and if anyone is interested in a copy I'll put you in touch with the guy who makes them. They aren't expensive.

Looks good mate..A couple of questions if i may...

Will it be an adhesive peel off as in the black outline?...

The reason i ask is that it may be very fiddly trying to get it on the front of the actual panel where it should be..There is a risk of it sticking to itself or having air bubbles in the finish.

2. Would it be as is with the white areas which would need to be cut from once fitted...They could be pre-cut?

Or

3. Would it be a vinyl sticker so that they adhere to a clean surface which would be easy to move to the correct position....

Yes

I haven't tried to stick it to the panel yet but I'm expecting it to be fiddly.

It is pre-cut so the white areas are the backing ie empty space when the decal is peeled off. I'm expecting this is what will make it tricky to get right at the first attempt.

I don't think it will slide, but I'll report back once I've plucked up the nerve to try it thumbup

Only one problem - shouldn't it say:

MISTUP____WARM___LUKEWARM

;^)

Other than that it looks great!

That matches mine perfectly.

But - it doesn't have the peeling bits, scratches, not square stereo hole.... smile

Seriously - nice job.

Where I used to work we applied a lot of big stickers to the equipment we hired out, these could be applied dry or wet. If applied wet (surface sprayed with a weak soap solution using a trigger spray bottle) they could be slid around like
the decals (transfers) on an Airfix kit.
Might be worth asking your supplier if these can be applied similarly?

Excellent work.

How's the 280 coming along? How long until you're on the road?

Here's the sample decal stuck onto my old metal switch panel.

It's a very good fit on my panel and it was quite easy to get the positioning correct. I will need to trim a tiny bit of the sticker off the sides of the holes to get the switches to slide in. I'm going to order one and I'll post up details for anyone who wants to order one for themselves. At the risk of teaching grandmothers to suck eggs though, you all know as well as I do the no two TVR's are the same, so just because this decal fits my panel doesn't mean it will fit all others just as well.

NB. You will need to clean up the surface of your old panel very well because, as you can see in the photo, the decal will show up any imperfections, flaky paint etc on the original surface. I'm going to be taking this one off now and stripping my panel back to bare metal to make sure it is absolutely smooth before applying the "production" item.

Thank you. I've been running it around the block but not plucked up the nerve to go too far from home yet. Tappets and door hinge bushes this week and then no more excuses! Also I do still have to glass in the new big bore pipe from the fuel filler so water doesn't cascade in from the wheel arch!

The finished product is now available on eBay at £7.00. See the separate post for details if you're interested.

I haven't stuck mine on yet because I'm trying to get the panel as smooth as possible. The vinyl shows up any imperfections or flakey old paint on the original surface so it's worth spending the time to get the best out of the decal.
