Just removed the sound deadning from under the bonnet before it totally disintegrates when i noticed a black plastic covered wire inside the bonnet section cutout which sits on the heater intake in front of the scuttle. The wire is fibreglassed into the side of the air scope and dissapears towards the bonnet catch i cannot get my hand in to feel where it goes but it is fixed to something. It looks like its been there since it was built, how anybody could get in there unless they had a trained mouse baffles me...

What is it please or do they all have one?

I've always assumed them to be earthinng straps.
Probably only there to get approval for use on public roads
(The SVA type thing - can't remember what it's called)

mike,
I think that you will find that the under side of the bonnet (or what we call a hood) is bonded to earth to prevent radio static. The insulation that you pulled out has an aluminium mesh inbeded in it that was connected to the wire that you found. I have an old 280 that has a couple of grills in the bonnet and they are even bonded. If you get radio interferance, attach fine screening (from a screen door) to the back side of the bonnet and then attach it to earth thru the latch, using that mysterious wire.
