After replacing the left side headlight motor (rusted solid armature) I seem to have reversed something. One goes up while the other goes down.
I've tried disconnecting the wiring in different sequences but no change. It appears that the arm of the left motor is 180 degrees off.
Switch on : right up, left down
Switch off : right down left up
Do I need to redo the whole thing or is there a way to sync them?

Try disconnecting the raised light, then switch the lights off (the disconnected pod should stay up), then switch on, (hopefully the other one will pop up), disconnect the battery, switch to off, re-connect the first pod, reconnect the battery and see what happens. Can't say it will work but the motors seem to have a "memory".

From memory I think the arm on the motor can be fitted in two position 180 degrees apart. So you should be able to undo the nut securing the arm to the motor, remove the arm, rotate the arm by 180 degrees and refit. This should solve your problem.

Hi mate

Turn the lights on..Disconnect the battery and then manually wind the left pod up from underneath using the little dial.

Once it is at its full extent where it starts to go back down re-connect battery and operate...If you still have the same problem then you need to remove the armature from the left pod and rotate.

That is correct, a simple thing to do, I have done that more than once when you have them all apart.

Very important to remove battery as, the motor is very strong, and with limited space could cause a lot of damage, esp as motor will engage if it's not on one of the stops.

You may as well disconnect the battery when the light pod is up so you can disconnect the linkage, then re-connect and turn lights on. disconnect battery and then fit armature with lights in the up position, then they sould both be fine once you put the bettery on again

If you want to try my method remember you only need to remove the fuse to isolate the sticking up pod.

Thanks everyone!
Have to rotate the arm, might be a bit of a challenge since it is welded on...
Will be looking for a replacement just in case

In that case, try swopping the limit switch wires.

On the motor there are 5 wires, 2 for motor itself, and 3 for the 'position' switches (one for UP, one for DOWN, with a common 'return' wire)

If you can trace the wires, the UP and DOWN go to the signal relay (shared between the two pods), which is triggered by putting the lights on.

I can't remember the colours for sure, I think they are green/red and green/yellow ?? - someone confirm please.

It works like the 'self' park on wipers, but there are TWO 'stop' positions and the signal relay chooses between them.
So what you are doing is swopping UP for DOWN and vice versa.

That should work.

Will you? If it was working correctly before there can't be too much wrong with it. As per the above post, it's probably just the park position which has reversed itself and got out of sync for some reason. Also try removing the relay for that pod, operate the other one and then replace the relay. All of this you can do quite simply to see if it solves the problem before resorting to major works.

Alrighty
Thanks for the tip!
Temperature took a big dive outside so this will keep me busy until it warms up.

Also, is the screw/bolt that holds the arm to the pod linkage a special thread?
I tried to replace it with a hex head but the new ones will not thread in. The old one goes in fine and the compatible trial nut takes both new and old bolts without any problems
Don't want to cross thread the arm so I used the old one which takes a while to get off. Would be way easier with a hex head in there!

5 wires
3 in a single connector left alone
2 single wires swapped, works fine!

Thanks for all the help!
Cheers!!
