Drop in oil pressure
Discussion
OK, I'm confused here. Bit of a long rambling story so I've stuck some cliff notes at the bottom for those that can't be bothered to read this drivel
Monday morning I check my oil and its a little low. I top it up with some stuff I had in the back of the car even though its been there for about a year and I'm sure its a different weight to the oil in the car. Drive to work and back with no problems (15 mile each way, 50 miutes each way due to traffic).
As I get home at night and I'm parking, I disengaged the clutch, the revs dropped past idle and it stalled. Started it up, blipped the throttle and as the revs fell they dropped to about 500 before climbing back to 1000. Turned it off and left it for the night. Next morning start up, fine, no problems. Set off for work. After about 30 minutes of driving the problem comes back. At the same time the problem comes back I notice my oil pressure is lower than usual.
After idling for a few seconds my pressure is usually ~25psi. Touch the throttle and it jumps to ~45 and get above 2500rpm and it raises to ~65psi. Now for the first 30 minutes of driving the idle is ~20, touch throttle and it raises to ~40, but won't go any higher than 42. After 30 minutes it idles between 15 and 20. It will rise to 40 with throttle, but not higher.
Last night I stuck in some Wynn's engine flush and changed the oil. Halfords 10-40. Now the problem with the revs dropping past idle has gone, but the low oil pressure problem is still there.
The thing that's getting me is that it seems to have happened very suddenly and at the same time I put in the top up oil. Seems a bit coincidental to be a worn pump or something. Unless the difference in oil grades or something did the wearing...
Anyone offer suggestions? And preferably cheap solutions?
Cliffs:
1.Top up oil with differnt grade to what's in car.
2.Clutch in and revs drop past idle and stalls after 30 mins of running.
3.Oil pressure dropped from 25/45/65 to 20/40 after 30 mins or running.
4.Change oil and revs ok now.
5.Still have low pressure.
6.Expensive repairs?
